Post 7,500 mile maintenence for $45

Too cold/wet to change oil, etc., so I listed the stuff in the manual and went to the corner service station. It was $31 including tax, and I gave him my own oil and filter to use.

How much does Acura get for this? I had:
- Oil and filter
- Rotate tires
- Inspect brakes, suspension, steering components, drive axles and all associated boots
- Top off fluids (only washer fluid was low)
- Air up tires

Thumbs down

Acura charged me $127.00. I had them perform the service because I don't want them to jack me around should I ever require major warranty service. Acura may try and scam out of covering something because the car wasn't serviced properly by qualified technicians.

There's a federal law preventing them from doing that. However, I appreciate all you guys who go to the dealer for service...it keeps MSRP down for all of us!

I've been using the dealer exclusively for service for a couple of reasons:

- They know who I am and what I'm there for when I walk through the door

- They get the job done *FAST*, and never give me a hard time

- They occaisionally fix things for free: so far I've had my rotors resurfaced and a tail light replaced at no charge. The tail light is no big deal, only costs a few dollars.. but the rotor resurface would have set me back a bit.

- Don't want to hear any excuses from them when I trade-in. My next car is more than likely to come from this dealership (they also sell MB, BMW, Lexus, Rolls Royce/Bentley. Only one missing is Audi ;-) ) If they try to tell me something wasn't done right, I can tell them that the car was serviced at all of the suggested intervals, and that *only* their staff has been under the hood.

Don't know if all of this is really worth the extra dough, but so far, I'm happy.

When I am too lazy to do it, I take it to my local trusted mechanic and I supply the filter and oil, they charge me $10. I do the walk-under inspection while they changethe oil, and then we do the fluid checks and brake checks too. I guess I've been doing that so long that they just let me do the checks with them and charge me so little.

That's a good idea; I'll ask to look underneath myself next time!

When I have spare time, I go to my friend who has a shop for the oil change..if his guys are busy, I put the car up myself and change the oil...he charges me for the oil and filter i used, that's it. I'm at 16,000 miles...should I have the dealer check everything out or just do it myself?

At times it is better to get your maintenance done at the dealer. Here is the reason why....
