Hi Guys
Firstly - I posted this on another acura tl forum so you may have seen it before.
Anyway...
I've searched but it's a hard topic to narrow down.
I currently own a 5th gen accord and I'm looking for something a bit different - but a honda of course!
I'm looking at a JDM Honda Saber/Inspire (US TL) (we get them imported in to New Zealand from Japan), specifically I'm looking at a 99/00 model.
However they are pretty rare, there are 5 or 6 2nd gens for sale in the whole country and the closest one is a 5 hour drive away, the others are a flight away. Looking for opinions first before I drive/fly to test drive one.
I would like to hear from people who have driven both for a bit of a comparison.
Firstly the specs don't show them being that much bigger than the accord, what are your impressions of the interior room, boot (trunk) space etc I understand that the TL is based on the 6th gen accord - is this correct?
My family will soon number 4 and I would like something a bit bigger but not a boat.
I've also read that the TL and the 6th gen accord V6 shares alot of parts like suspension. Do they share or have similar transmissions? I ask because being so rare and the known trans problems in the TL I don't want to have to order a new trans from Japan as that would cost a friggin fortune!
Thanks for you help!
I have my eye on a black 1999 32v Saber - would look great lowered, tinted and some aftermarket alloys.

The second gen TL is based on the sixth gen Accord, yes, and they are built at the same plant so I imagine the suspension parts are probably the same (with tweaks here and there). The 00+ TLs have a 5 speed auto that the Accords didn't have, and they are known to have problems.
I've had a 95 Accord and this 02 TL and the TL feels much bigger, and I dunno about actual measurements, but it sure does look a bit bigger. The TL is a lot less agile than those old Accords, as well - I don't find it as entertaining to drive (but that's just me, some on here will probably disagree).
The TL would fit a family of 4 perfectly, by the way.
Hope this helps

ASSEMBLED TO PERFECTION
I had a 95 accord before I got my TL. Ofcourse it is ALOTT nicer, luxury, faster, BIGGER lol. The TL also rides a lot more smoother then the accord. I loved my accord but the TL is just a different story. Only thing I miss is trying to squeeze into a lane in between cars, I have to look like 2 or 3 times to make sure i'll fit because this things a whale lol. But now that I got the SE-R I can weive in and outta traffic with this little bug. Oh yea and the TL takes a lot more gas. Overall if you got the money for it , I say go for it.
