50% tint worth it?
My car is still *legally* registered in Maine and the state law says darkest tint is 50%
In everyones' opinions is it worth spending the money for 50% tint? Does anybody have any pictures of 50% tint?
Thanx

I would also like to see some tints, 50% and 72% (NY limit)....if anyone can post some pics.
And if you do post pics, make 'em big so we can see

You can check out my windshield...the whole thing is tinited in 50% tint. It is going to appear darker though b/c of the side windows & the black interior. Try to take a glimps at my registration...it appears grey b/c of the tint.

Wow, you tinted your front windshield?! Isn't that a ticket magnet? It looks great though.
I have 35 all around except of course the front windshield, and with the parchment interior, I wish I would have gone a bit darker. However, at night or without direct sunlight, it looks good. Don't have pics yet.
I would think that 50 with a black interior is still going to look a lot better than with no tint.

That is true having tint is better than not having it but why not go 38% like I did rather than 50%? You can still see into the car but it keeps a classy, sleek look. The police will only use tint as a reason to pull you over if 1) they suspect something or 2) it's dark and they want to bust your balls. I have a bunch of friends that are cops so I know their reasoning.

Actually I've only been pulled over for it once but never got the ticket. They can't prove it b/c the tint meter slides over the window, hence unless you remove the windshield you can't use the meter. I have 38% centaur (has a hint of a reflective mirror look to it).

I have had the 51% Non Metalic Shatter Block Tint on my 2000 TL for about 2yrs. The reason that I have posted on here quite a few times is Washington DC. laws only alow 75% on passenger cars.
This excludes limos or Vans & SUVs with factory tint . The front drivers or passenger windows can't be tinted. Police will not stop you or even question you about it unless its very dark like drug boys in the old beat up cars. We have vehicle inspections here every 2yrs & that is when they fail you. With the green heat rejecting glass thats already in the TL the 51% tint will be even slightly darker. Its well worth it any tint is better than none. The 51% still has its heat rejecting qaulity. The darker tint will give you more privacy inside. The 51% gives you a shadow effect from the outside but you can still see inside the car.

what i recommend is go to the local tint shop I used 3m tint and ask them for some small samples of the variety of tints. It is cheap and they could potentially bring in a client so they will probably do it. I went with mirror because it has better heat shielding. I know that my 35% blocks 99% UV and 45% heat and makes it look cooler while helping preserve the leather.

I have 50%. I will try to get a picture when I can. I think it is worth it. It's hard to say whether 50% is dark enough or not because the look depends on where you are and what kind of lighting the car is in. It gives the car a better/classier look. I had a tough time choosing between 35 and 50% but chose 50% because I didn't want any trouble with police since I wanted the same level of tint on all the windows excluding the front windshield.

Tint Regs in Jersey
All,
I know there are several guys on the list from Jersey. Do you know what the tint regs are in Jersey? I'd like to go with the darkest tint possible due to my black interior, but I also want the tint the same on all windows, including the front and back.
Any idea of what I can get away with in the garden state?
I know nothing about tinting, so is there any process or film that is the right one to use? Any to stay away from?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I was just looking into tinting here in Oregon..35% is legal. My problem is this: from reading the Valentine 1 website and hearing this before as well; metalized tints "significantly decreases rear laser and radar sensitivity of Radar detectors" My V1 has saved me so many times that I'm probably note going to tint because of this fact. Here in Oregon they don't do that much pacing and instead use traps or sneak in behind...just a thought

My car is registered in New Jersey (no tint allowed at all on the front windows), but I mainly drive it in New York, where minimal tint is allowed- 72% on front windows.
Which law should I follow? An NY cop can't stop me for not conforming to Jersey's tinting laws, can he?
