3800 mile trip and great gas mileage

just got back from my trip to florida and the car performed perfectly! i was haulin a$$ (averaged close to 90mph round trip. made it from orlando(disney world) to chicago in 16 hrs) and turned a very respectable 28.7mpg (the way down was HEAVY thunderstorms too)

the only thing is for some reason about 2500 miles into the trip my SRS light came on and has been on ever since. oh well ill have it cheked out monday.

Man, I think 90mph is a bit too much if that was your average speed. Regardless, that's great gas mileage. I've found that I get the best gas mileage (constantly 33mpg) around 70-80 mph with 80 mph being optimal. With gas prices these days, I try to maintain that if the posted speed is 70mph. Hope you had fun and just to let you know, you are a lucky mofo. Georgia State Patrol sucks bigtime! They love catching Florida tourists and I've gotten all my tickets in that state so far. Hell, I didn't even know I was carying 7 points on my liscense until I got a letter last month saying that my 7 points were wiped clean since I didn't get a ticket in the last year.

i ran into 1 macon (my buddy got thrown in jail there for speeding one trip) sherrif using KA instant on'ing and 1 state boy on the way home last night with laser, both times my 8500 gave me enough heads up to slow down (black bra and no plate )

on a trip from Ocala (near Orlando) to Fort Walton (near Pensacola) I got an astonishing 34.3 miles to the gallon!!!

Going there I got something like 32.7 or so. I had a slight tail wind going there and a slight crosswind going north and practically no wind when I was heading back west in north FL.

I LOVE bragging about it.
The car was pretty much empty (just me and a backpack), and the only mod I have is a K&N filter.
I averaged about 74 mph and often times kept up with the pack.
Very nice!

I dunno about that. I think 33 is about the best you'll get.

This is incorrect. Although your car may be different, I suspect it's very similar to mine. I've kept track of gas usage in the last 3 years and it seems that the TLS gets best mileage near 80 mph. I bet I can beat my record of 34-35mpg since all my calculations were one family trips where I had 4 passengers and a full trunk of stuff with either the AC or heater on.

I get great mileage on long trips too at about 75-80 avg mph. I guess thats where the low 5th gear we always complain about comes in real handy:p
