2k miles on new trans and gone bad? or something else?
Like some of you might know, I just got my trans replaced not even 2 weeks ago with one of these "new" version tranny. At first when I picked up the car it seemed really sluggish, I just thought to myself it was because I didn't drive it for a few days. Then I went on a trip for the weekend and I was able to put a good 1k miles on it. When I was on the way I noticed that it took for ever to shift into 2nd gear (about 80% of the time). When I was on the freeway about 80 mph (4th gear) and I would hit the gas (lightly) it would seem almost like it wanted to stall or if I had tapped the gas pedal twice. I don't know but can it be maybe something else other then the trans? by the way its an 03 TL-p Thank you guys. Eddie

I just got mines back today from the dealers with one of those trannys too. I dropped it off 2 fridayz ago and they got done in a week. They charged me for a motor mount replacement. The new one shifts smooth to me, but kinda sluggish to 2nd and 3rd gears. Hope this one last.................

I noticed a drop in performance when I had the 60k service done at Acura. My tranny went out at 80k and I didn't notice any drop in performance from that visit. Just the jerky shifts and the "stalling" in higher gears at low RPM when you accelerate.

But there were some revisions made to the transmission in February 2005 that might have resulted in improved reliability.

But, even at 103,000 miles, you might want to see if Acura will cover the replacement. Some forum members have had some luck getting Acura to cover transmissions past 100,000 miles. (It's a hit or miss proposition but it doesn't hurt to try.)
Good Luck!

I hope you get it taken care of!

Funny thing is a got a notice in the mail from a company that wants to offer me an extension of the factory warranty. For $985 I can buy a warranty that covers trans (along with other items) for 3 years or 40K miles. I need to read the fine print and am guessing there's some catch but if it looks ok I'm leaning towards this option because this is about how much longer I want to keep the thing for. Killing me other the trans I love the car and it's running like new.

Ok just read the fine print and the warranty will only cover $2200 max for a trans replacement plus you need to have documentation stating that you had oil changes by a service station every 4 months/ 4000 miles. Miss one oil change or go over 4K and warranty is void. Back at square one driving with my fingers crossed.

- $2955 cost of policy over 3 years for only $2200 worth of coverage.
- Oil changes have nothing to do with the tranny and 4 month / 4000
is just to disqualify someone.
So, if it failed the day after the coverage You would have paid out the
lions share of the cost of the tranny and then have to pay for it anyway.
Almost double.
This is clearly aimed at people who don't think. Criminal in my opinion.

Spoke with warranty company and told them I don't see the value in it to which they tried to convince me otherwise. I told them the best price I could find for a new trans was $2700 & change then add the cost of installation. So after it's all said and done I still me shelling out over $3000 with warranty where going without is $2700 & change plus oil and I change trans myself. I also stated that it's not uncommon for me go 4500 between oil changes and if I was put a claim on anything else warranty would be void as changes have to documented. He agreed 4500 would void warranty so our conversation ended.
"Recall Date:
04/15/2004
Summary:
ON SOME MINI VANS, SPORT UTILITY AND PASSENGER VEHICLES, CERTAIN OPERATING CONDITIONS CAN RESULT IN HEAT BUILD-UP BETWEEN THE COUNTERSHAFT AND SECONDARY SHAFT SECOND GEARS IN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, EVENTUALLY LEADING TO GEAR TOOTH CHIPPING OR GEAR BREAKAGE.
Consequence:
GEAR FAILURE COULD RESULT IN TRANSMISSION LOCKUP, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy:
ON VEHICLES WITH 15,000 MILES OR LESS, THE DEALER WILL UPDATE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A SIMPLE REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE TO INCREASE LUBRICATION TO THE SECOND GEAR. ON VEHICLES WITH MORE THAN 15,000 MILES, THE DEALER WILL INSPECT THE TRANSMISSION TO IDENTIFY GEARS THAT HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED DISCOLORATION DUE TO OVERHEATING. IF DISCOLORATION EXISTS, THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE REPLACED IF DISCOLORATION IS NOT PRESENT, THE DEALER WILL PERFORM THE REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 21, 2004, FOR PILOT, ODYSSEY, AND MDX OWNERS. OWNERS OF THE ACCORD VEHICLES WILL START RECEIVING LETTERS ON JUNE 28, 2004, AND ON JUNE 29, 2004, FOR OWNERS OF THE TL AND CL VEHICLES. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009 OR ACURA AT 1-800-382-2238.
Potential Units Affected:
1099796
Notes:

No actually the trans was replaced under my original warranty as the trans failed at 40,000 miles. I received a new trans with the oil cooler modifcation listed above to aid the oiling problem that caused the mechanical problem. I'm finding that now my trans acts up when it's cold then as warms up runs normal, which leads me to believe I still have an oiling problem. I'm going to talk to dealership to see what they'll do but my guess is I'll be swapping it myself.
On a side note does anyone have the OEM part number for a 2001 trans and 2005 trans?

"Is this common? I was also charged for the front motor mount."
The last scheduled maintenance I had they told me that my motor mount needed replacement so I asked what they based this on. Service guy said looks dry rooted so I then asked what is the spec for this (other than the visual inspection) and he said I don't know just went by visual. I popped the hood and it looked pretty damn good to me (actually was one of the best looking mounts I've ever inspected no dry root or cracks anywhere), I then took a pry bar to see how much deflection it had and there's was minimal. My personal opinion is you got sucked in and why didn't he replace the rear as well? if anything the rear is around more heat and oil and should have worn first but then again it is much more difficult to replace.
