Question 225/50 -17 on OEM TLS Wheels

Should I put 225/50's on the Stock TLS Wheels? I looked at tire rack and the Revs Per Mile are 803 vs. 819 with the stock 215. What difference will that make? How much will it through off my spedo, and will it be in my favor? The tire is almost 1/2" wider than the stock tire, do you think it will rub? Keep in mind this is on a lowered Accord V-6. Is there any benifits from having the 225's over stock?

I just put on Michelin Pilot A/S 225/50s on my stock CL-S rims and they ROCK! The speedo. difference is on the slow side; about 1.5%. In other words, when my speedo. shows 60, I'm really going 60.9. That is of course if my speedo. was calibrated properly in the first place.

The 225/50s are nice. I know a lot of people have gone with 235/45s on their stock rims, but 3 independent tire shops recommended against it. Actually, my choice on the 225/50 was due to the fact that I got such a great deal on the tires. I mean a GREAT deal!

I have 225/45-17s on TL-S wheels, with no problems. They were installed at a NTB Store, who checked them and said they fit fine.

819-803 = 16

16/803 = 0.019 or 1.9% diff in the speedo... that is an approximation, there are a lot of conditions that are present that this doesn't account for, loading, etc.... not a huge concern speedwise....

I plan on going with the Pilot A/S 225/50/17 on my car but the cheapest I can find them is for $225/each installed and balanced. I am courious as to what the great deal you go them for was?

I was walking through Costco this past weekend, and decided to take a look at the tires. I saw what looked like Pilot A/S tires sitting on the floor. Sure enough they were...

The price said $682.00 for the 225/50/17s mounted/balanced/road hazard coverage! I immediately walked over to one of the tre guys who was working there and asked him if this was in fact the price. He said "Yes".

Turns out these tires were special ordered for someone and the guy never came back to pick them up. Costco just wanted to get rid of them, so they discounted them BIGTIME!

I took my stock tires with me, as I only put 2900 miles on them. Sold them for 400 bucks... Paid $678 for the Pilots, since I took my original tires with me.

In the end, the Pilots cost me $278. Not bad!

Sweet deal indeed! Those are awesome all-season tires. Hey, by having a rotational difference of 1.9%, wouldn't your odometer read 19620 miles when you've actually gone 20000?

Exactly...

According to http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html, the difference is 1.5%, but either way my speedo. will still be reading a bit slow.

Wow, that's a great deal for the tires. How come I can never find deals like that? How are the tires doing for ya? Do you really feel the difference in them (handling, road noise, ride quality, etc.)?

Hey scrib....can you take a couple of pics from various angles with the Pilot A/S? I am interested but I want to see what they look like first. Thanks.

The tires rock... Handling is much improved, and road noise is negligable. On the highway, cornering at 80mph+ doesn't cause as much roll in the car; the tires grab real well. Overall, it's a whole different car.

Most certainly... I travel weekly, so I won't be able to get the pics until Saturday, but I'll take a few then and post them.
