2003 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE goes down

My friend got his new car last month, we decided to race at night at a empty area. ( I should NEVER have street raced, nor will I ever again) It was a 4 lane road with no cars absolutely, because they are building new homes, so theres no reason for anyone to be there, and the roads are real smooth. About a quarter mile down straight, then it turns.

I turn off TCS , torque brake just a tad, on third honk, we take off and I honestly expected to lose. I have a regular 2003 TL , took off resonator, and added tornado (ahah :p). He took off his resonator and thats about it. If you didn't know, 3.5 SE altima has 245 HP... TL has 225...

I won 4/4 races...

on the last race, we decided to be lazy, and not turn around against the turn, so we went at it... i won, but i was going 80mph just shifted up to 3rd gear... there was a turn going downhill and a railroad....

I forgot... so i made a quick turn kinda... (TCS WAS OFF ) man, my car started spinning like hell... like the world was going around in slow mode...

(if you went on an E-Brake frenzy or your car spun in the rain or such, you know what I mean)

my car started to skid like NUTS, i thought my car was going to slam into the trees or light pole, but amazingly i dont know how, i took control of the car, i winged the steering wheel to the left and right and left and right for about six times through until the car stopped... my friend behind me saw the whole thing because he slowed down before the turn... he said that I should have spun out and hit the trees... especially because of the turn , downhill, railroad, going 80mph....

man... that was a scary experience.... no more street races period.... i've learned my lesson. i was still shaky like an hour after it happened...

Ive raced two 3.5 Altimas. I raced one latenight (60 roll) on the freeway. I pulled in the beggining but then all I saw was his 6000K HID's closing the distance. He passed me eventually (100 mph). He had to have had Mods

Second one I raced was an automatic at the runs. I barely won that one... less than a hood ( he would have beat me if we kept goin)...

They have 20 more hp... Makes sense to me:o

Definetely not a smart thing to race down a street with turns and railroad tracks...

Did this happen at Sylmar by any chance on San Fernando Road?

About a year ago I raced this integra gsr, he fishtailed trying to avoid railroad tracks, then he slammed up on the curb hitting a tree. Luckily he was ok and I gave him a ride home. His car was left totalled...

well his car is probably not even broken in yet since u said he got it last month... other than that, is he riding a stick or the auto? the stick is rated at 6.3 but the auto on that is more a 7.0... the TL-P is rated around 6.8 so maybe that cud be why u beat him? that and he probably getting used to the car or hes not that good yet at goin from the line... glad to know that you didnt mess up ur ride thogh

Why?

Just cause a car has more hp/torque does not mean that it will win every time. Hell a Murcielago can lose to a pinto if he focks up all his shifts.

Point is, a win is a win and this guy actually won 4/4 times so I don't think it's a fluke.

BTW, good kill but be careful next time. Our cars are not meant to take corners at 80+ mph!

With the Tornado, I bet the TL-P has 450WHP. I heard that someone was due to post some Dyno results with the Tornado installed and I've been keeping my eye out for them.

With testimonials like this, maybe I don't need a Dyno test to rush out and buy mine. :yack: Yeah Right...

hp ratio's means nada! Nissan overrates their engines so much. a 225hp 330ci is still equal to a 280hp g35 coupe in many magazine runs of the 1/4 times.

Fellow TL fans,
I purchased this part for my 2000TL believing it is fuel efficient. So to me it was worth to buy it, try it and find out for myself.
I didn't feel any difference at normal speed until the time I took the car to Las Vegas which took a lot of time from the time I bought it.
I was running at about the speed of 95 or probably more and I can feel the car hesitate to go beyond it.......like it was choking.......
Upon arrival, I removed this fuel saver and on our trip back, it did not hesitate one bit to go at 120.......
Was wanting to return it and was advised that it's more than 30 days...
Request for refund was denied........
I will have to eat the $85....and just charge it to experience........
Conclusion......don't even bother with this product.......juniel

actually the g35 coupe mated with a manual is faster than the 330ci.. but still the 225under the hood of that car is damn fast... with an auto its just as fast as the TL-P's so i think the vtec in the honda/acura's are great

Way to whup up on a "faster" car.

And, sorry, but I can't resist this next part.

I think the reason for you wipe-out had less to do with your hard turn, but more to do with the Tornado. See once that thing really gets spinning, the force is so powerful that even the slightest turn will cause the Tornado to put you in to a really hard spin. It's a good thing you were only doing 80 or so because that means the Tornado is just and F2 class wind speed. Had you been going over 100MPH, you would have been an F3 Tornado and would have likely been flipped over by the force.

BTW- an F5 class Tornado would have blown your and your competitor's doors off.

TCS wouldn't have made any difference in this situation, BTW.

??? what are you talking about?

I was being totally off the wall about the Tornado causing him to get in a spin. Tornado, like in twister.

Hey Ruf - FYI,

His reference goes back to juniel's post & here's what he was talking about:

I have a 00 TL that I have owned now for about 2 months w/about 37K broken in. Does anyone have any acurate test data about going 0-60 mph? I heard a rumor that the 00 TL was about six seconds. I question this due to the S-Type is also a six second ride. And would removing the resonator and adding a K&N high flow filter really add a noticable improvement?

the rumor with the 00TL around six seconds is false... how can a 225HP TL beat the Type S which is running 6.3... (6.4 quoted by acura). It wud be more like 7.2seconds or so

About 7.0 although I think C&D had one run about 6.8.

Is this based off magazine times? I've driven both and the 330ci feels just as fast. Nissan has been guilty of overrating the power in their cars. I mean the Q45 should blow away the LS430 with the hp and tq advantage it has, but it doesn't. The LS is faster.
