2003 DVD Navigation Update

I spoke to Olivia at Acura today and she told me a "SMALL" update coming out April 2003. It will have 4 city updates which include Albany-NY, Syracuse-NY, Lake Placid-NY, and Charleston-WV. Also, the points of interest will be updated.
She also told me that a "Major" nation update will be coming out in the September or October. It will include a graphic enhancement. She didn't think it would include the voice activation.

Even if an update included availability for "voice activation", what would even make that an option for our current cars??? I highly doubt microphones were installed in our cars for the future of voice commands...... The only thing in my car that recognizes voice commands is OnStar, and I highly doubt that is integrated into the system...........

The only updates you will see are map/street updates and POI updates. Graphical interface updates *might* occur (but since Acura is on next generation systems, why bother with the expense for older vehicles?) but you definitely won't see any type of hardware updates, which is what would be necessary for voice activation.

All I want is full maps of the continental US and I'll be happy--everything else on the navi is just fine by me.

Does this mean that the operating system and graphical interface for the nav is on the disc and not in the unit itself? That would be cool.

I always thought of the disc as only a database for POI and maps.

Well, I believe the DVD also contains the OS. If you get into the magic "maintenance screen" you can actually select a "Force Download" where the unit reloads the OS from the DVD.

This is good because the coverage of the system in the albany area is terrible. IT doesnt have my college on it, and my college has been around since 1795!! i was also driving on main roads that werent shown on the screen.

i think u hold 3 buttons. the Menu, CANCEL and MAP buttons for 3 seconds and the maintence should pop right up.

Just play with it. It only takes a second to launch the screen.

No, not that anyone's ever reported. Seems the Navi screen is all about the Navi... no engine diags.
