Post 2002 TLS Prices in the BayArea (CA)

Here is the breakdown of my purchase dollar for dollar, just in case anyone around was wondering on what to shoot for when stepping in the negotiation table for the first time. I visited a total of 9 dealers within my area, and out of those 9, 4 were willing to give it to me at this price. It took me alot of research and effort to finally get the price to what I thought was reasonable, and in the end found that it was very rewarding. I just hope that this can cut down some wasted time sorting through all the dealer BS other people would have to go through.

Date: April 28, 2002
Model: 2002 3.2 TL Type S with Navigation

Interior: Ebony Leather
All-Season Floor Mats 56.00
Black Wood A/C Vent Trim 54.00
Trunk Tray 106.00

Exterior: Aegean Blue Pearl
Wheel Locks 63.00
Front Under Body Spoiler 469.00
Rear Under Body Spoiler 520.00
Side Under Body Spoiler 390.00

Invoice Price (no destination) 29,950.00

Dealer Holdback (2% of MSRP) 664.60

MSRP Markup (11% above Invoice) 3,280.00

MarkUp Offer (3% above Invoice) 898.50

Base Price Offer 30,848.50
Destination Charge 480.00
Total Accessories (MSRP) 1,658.00

Total Vehicle Price 32,986.50

Documentation 45
Tax (Oakland, CA) 2,642.52
DMV 472
Smog Fee 5
Tire Fee (new CA law) 5

Extended Warranty (5/100,000) 1,100

GRAND TOTAL 37,256.02

**APR (Credit Union) 5.75%

As a side note, whenever the salesperson asks "Can I help you with something" by the 3rd dealer I visited, my automatic response was "Is there a table where we could sit." I found this a great strategy when it comes down to negotiating, since it basically cuts all the crap that the dealer would have to go through in trying to sell you the car. My overall message is...no need of a test drive...lets get to the numbers!

Question

You got a good deal. I've tried a couple dealers in the Bay Area. And the best I got is $1,500 over invoice, vs your $900.
May I ask which dealers you got the offer
from ? Thanks.

Oakland <--where I bought mine
Marin <--best customer service by far
Serramonte <--too much BS, but cheap
Sunnyvale <--Same as Marin, but too far

All are willing to give me the car at that price. I chose Oakland because of their "Bottom line we will beat any price" attitude. Although I must admit...their customer service sucks. Poor presentation, and overall customer care. If you want customer service, I suggest either Marin or Sunnyvale.

Thanks for the info. Just curious. Do you have to buy the accessories (at MSRP!)in order to get this kind of deal ?

That's some good info!

I'm glad all your work paid off for you.
over 2K off MSRP,
Curious, why not the rear wing spoiler too?

I didn't know about the new fees, DMV went up $72, and that new tire law. Even though no that much..

I can say, that you are the first Agean Blue I know of in the BayArea.

I've heard the same thing about Oakland Acura - Price is one of the best.

I'm not sure if i HAD to....but that was one area I was willing to budge in. Reason being is that those prices are based on a $70/hr labor charge (the national average). Granted this is California where the national average is higher, and from what the dealers are telling me, the average labor charge an hour for the state of california is around $85. So....of all the dealers I visited, Oakland was THE ONLY one that didnt challenge my MSRP prices on the accessories.

I didnt get the wing because deep down I couldnt justify adding in another $670 just for a wing. Besides, I kinda wanted to go for the sleek look. No moonroof visor, no wing, no 3.2 TL Type-S badging. Oh...one other thing I forgot to mention. DO NOT GET THE TRUNK TRAY! I cant believe that piece o sh** costed me 110 bucks. I expected higher quality material. I'm hoping to return it this weekend when I talk to my sales rep.

I think Edub-TL meant from the dealer. In which case, I think that they are over priced. As for the 279, I'd rather spend that on new springs. (I'm trying to go with the best bang for your buck route)

Yep, I did mean from the dealer.. since it looks like you have just about everything else.

Springs!! Heck Yeah! Go for it!
I'm getting my Springs/Sways at the end of the year after I get married.

The trunk tray is a POS, but i think someone wants to buy one---> http://www.acura-tl.com/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000443.html

But that probably is too much trouble.

When you go to to dealer, see if you can trade the trunk tray for the gauge cluster blackwood trim. They are about the same price.
