2002 acura tl transmission problems.

Ok, so I have just bought a 2002 acura tl for dirt cheap. I only paid $150 for it, they sold it so cheap because it's got 245k miles on it and the transmission won't engage. They said they were driving down the interstate and it started to rev high and they lost speed, so they had it towed back to where they were staying and it was leaking transmission fluid everywhere. I got it home and put some transmission fluid in it and now it's not leaking at all but it won't engage in any gear or reverse. If it is just the torque converter that went bad, should I only replace that and flush the transmission or should I replace the transmission as well? Thank you guys

Sounds like ATF Foamed and puked it out of the trans kinda like what happened to me with AMSOIL ATF..
Trans is more than likely dead (Needs Rebuild) sooo since you already paid that low for the car in any case you might as well look into the AV6 SWAP! you will have a superb car for 1700 bucks in total.

What he said. Don't have it rebuilt. Install an AV6 replacement. I made the mistake of having mine rebuilt. It died 40k later which is typical from what others have said.

I failed to mention that my acura has slap shift. Would that determine which transmission I need?

I assume you're referring to the sport shift mode - this is implemented in the ECU. Any 3 shaft 5 speed Honda tranny will work. But the AV6 is the best choice.

Yep, if you haven't heard, these transmissions go out all the time, very common. AV6 swap it. Bolts up with all the parts you already have and will never have problems again.
