Question 2 1/4" or 2 "piping for my exhaust?

Instead of buying a V6 exhaust, I've decided to buy the mufflers and make custom piping for myself. WHICH SHOULD I USE 2 and a quarter inch or just 2 inch piping. I've been told that I will get tickets for having 2 1/4" because it will be fairly loud. I want performance, at the same time I dont want to sound like a rice rocket. . .
2 1/4" or 2 " piping???
Advice plz

THE BIGGER THE PIPING THE LOUDER THE EXHAUST. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU MAKE YOURSELF REAR-BOLT ON SECTIONS WITH 2" PIPING.. LEAVE THE REST STOCK. I JUST DID THAT LAST WEEK AND IT SOUNDS GOOD. HAS BALLS AND A NICE SOUND, BUT NOT TOO LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS.

It doesn't matter if you get 2" or 2 1/4", if you remove the resonator in your B-pipe, it will be LOUD. I believe stock size diameter is 2 1/4 so if you go 2", you might be losing some power.
