1999 Ignition Recall

Hi guys...

Any of you '99 owners get a call from your Acura dealer about a recall for your ignition?

My dealer called me last week while I was gone to Vegas and left me a message to come in and get my ignition replaced...FREE OF CHARGE!!! Even though I have over 130,000KMS on the car...not bad

They said that the problem is that on some 99's the car would automatically shut off while driving...hmmm never happened to me...any of you guys out there?

Yea, I read about the recall a few months ago. Even though my ignition switch was fine, I didn't want to take the risk. It was free anyways. Better safe than sorry.

Is there any source where I can read about recalls or do I have to wait for the dealer to contact me?

If there is a recall, they will send you a Letter or phone you. They only called you last week about the ignition switch????? They send me a letter last year and was fixed April 02.

My goodness, it took Acura this long to do something about this stalling problem??!!

I went through some heated discussions with Acura about my '99 stalling. My first year of ownership was terrible until I made them take the '99 TL back.

Go get it fixed everyone. My last incident was a stall at 90mph and it wasn't pleasant in traffic.

I had my ignition switch recall done last year as well. And for all you guys that haven't done it yet, please note: if you have an aftermarket alarm system (specifically ignition kill), you will need to get that removed FIRST. I brought my TL in and the dealer said they were not willing to remove the alarm wire to replace the ignition switch. And to add insult to injury, they charged me a minimal fee to put back the steering column! So make sure you get your installer to remove the ignition kill wire first (or do it yourself if you know how). It's just more hassle than anything else.

Well I went to the dealer first thing this morning at 7am...yes that`s right 7am...they didn`t advise me that the mechanics only start working at 7:30...so already I`m a little pissed that I could`ve had an extra 30 mins of sleep...

Anyways, it turns out the they didn`t get the part that they were going to replace this morning so they had to schedule another appointment for next Monday....now I`m And to top it off...as Patrick says, they say that they might have to charge me extra for removing the kill switch if I had one on the car....now correct me if I`m wrong, but didn`t the car come with one from the dealer???

Anyways, as I was leaving I remembered that I needed a bottle of touch up paint and the service director gave it to me for free...so that was pretty nice of her.....anyways another early morning for me next week

Do you have a used 99TL or did you owned it new? Go to www.acura.com and owner link and reg. your car. According the the VIN, it will tell you the status of the recall.

I don't think that it really matters if the car was bought used or new...I bought mine used....however I bought the car used from the same dealership that sold it new so they might have all the info???

I asked if he bought it used or new because if he bought it used, the old owner might have done the recall. Recall notices doesn't effect if you bought it new or used. However, if you bought it used, Honda sometimes might not be up to date on who the owner is and the old owner might get the letter. Either way you can bring it in and the dealer can check if the recall order has been done for your car.
