18" rims with Comptech Springs

Is there an 18" rim I can put on my car without any worries?

I've read everything on here I can find and I'm still confused, cutting tabs, rolling fenders, etc...

I want to be able to have 3 passengers in the car without a lot of rubbing.

I need 3 tires replaced on my 2000 TL and decided to just buy rims and tires. (2 need replacing due to my rear Comptech springs dropping, the other has a bubble in it).

I can get a good deal on 18" ASA LS-8 rims, I like the look and they're cheap.

I think I'm looking for a 235/40/18 with a 45 or higher offset. This should minimize rubbing I THINK, I need some verification.

Anyone have a link to what "cutting the tab" is. I don't want to have to do it, but I should be prepared I guess.

I hate asking questions I KNOW were asked before, but I couldn't find the info I needed. I don't really know what happened to this board or where all the old posts went but I'm sure there were more than 3 topics in the Tires & Wheels forum.

Thanks to anyone who helps, I have to order these rims by tomorrow afternoon.

go with 225/40 series tires and hopefully the rims are 48+offset and you should be fine.

Offset is everything.

Get the offset right and you won't have to worry about tire size as much.

From the research I've done.

1. stick with 7.5 rim width
2. with +42 you need (i) 225/40/18 (ii) trim bumper tabs and possibly fender
3. with +45 225/45/18 should be fine, 230/40/18 will be almost fine without people in the back
4. with +48 offset you can probably do 245/40/18

your BEST option is 225/45/18 (makes the diameter the same as stock so you don't have to worry about your speed and stuff being off, and you can use your spare...225/40/18 is about an inch smaller) with a +48 offset. you will need to trim the tab with a +45. So if you can find a 18x7.5 with a +48 offset with 225/45/18 tires, your all set.

Yep +40 = nfw
+42 you could make it work if you compromise your speedo
+45 should be easily doable with a minor risk of having to trim the bumper tab as long as you go with 225/45
