15k service, please respond asap.

hey all, thanks for reading quick. I just dropped my car off for it's 15k service and was quoted a price of $245, this seems exorbidantly high for oil, filter, fluids and stuff? Is this normal for the DC area and the country as a whole? Other than that my car is running BEAUTIFULLY!!! I love it dearly, treats me nice. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Exclamation expensive!!!

If my math is any good -- 15k miles = 24000 km. For that service, I paid a little over C$250 (about $170 American!) So I have no idea what's up with the huge price discrepancy.

Again -- this is based on the top of my head. It was certainly not US$245 (C$375) And that's including the 15% tax we pay in Ontario, Canada!

That sounds like the standard off the street price. Usually you can go through with the dealer and tell them what you want done and what you don't... that way the cost will come down. Some dealers even negotiate a price. I'm positive that people have had that done for less then $245. Try a search to see what you come up with.

BTW... I didn't bring my car in for the 15k... did all of it myself since it was pretty much all basic stuff....

I remember paying a little under $200, but the 30K was about $270-if I remember right.

My TL-S is also approching 15k and I think I will just do it myself rather than spending $245 on the stealer.

I will send in my baby to the stealer when it gets to 30k.

Cheers !!!

What dealer in the D.C.area is charging that price? That seems a little high for the 15K service. This is around the price of the 30K service. With the 30K service they change the trans fluid included with that service. The trans fluid change would be around $70 by itself. This sounds a bit steep for 15K service. I am not home at this time so I can't look at my service paperwork.

Why would you even bother with the 15K miles service? Seems like basic maintenance to me. Save yourself some $$$ and just do it yourself.

I couldn't agree more. What a waste of money. These mileage services are the biggest scam in the auto industry.

Compare....

what your owner's manual says you need at 15k with what the dealer said he his going to do for the $245... service departments often "add" several checks and services to the list of things the manufacturer says you need... great way to enhance your profit margin... off hand I don't remember what you're supposed to get at 15k but $245 sounds pretty steep for a tire rotation an oil and filter change, and checking fluids. Seems like you could knock that out yourself in under an hour yourself for the price of an oil filters and some Mobil 1!

well i took it in, they also check suspension and exhaust, total, with 10% discount via mail from Acura came to $220. The car rides and drives noticeably better so it seems like money well spent, albeit more money than I would have like to spend...

How long does it take for that dealer to complete the 15K service.

Took them about 25 minutes for mine. I think the service department in my area is either good or just needs more business. I brought the car in and asked if they could rush it. The service guy just said "no problem, will have it done in 30 minutes." Lo and behold, it was done.

And coming from an insurance carrier's standpoint, it's best to have your vehicle serviced by a professional. The records provided by the shops will be needed in case your vehicle gets stolen and/or totalled.

My 15K checkup was $160 at Radley Acura in Falls Church, VA (DC area). There is a huge difference if you take it in for service at the place you bought it, which I do.

anyone feel a difference in there car when they got it back after the 15K service? mine feels alittle smoother but might just be in my head.

just got my 15K mile service tuesday. Went to Hillside Acura in Bayside let me tell you greatest service on Long Island. Went there thinking i was gonna have a problem with the car being lowered and stuff. Turns out the service manager had a hooked up TLS. We chatted for alittle I even told him about my peeling wheel emblems that bothered me and he replaced them under warranty!! 160 including tax and a New York State inspection too. not that bad. oh ya best part they cleaned the dam thing so good it almost looked like i was pickin it up for the first time.

I had originally leased it from Island Acura in Wantaugh but found there service reps to honestly be *******s from the first time i brought the car for service. They even had the nerve to try to tell me the transmission failed b/c of my driving habbits. Plus they charge to much and never can get anything done on time without a hole bunch of excuses. Hillside Acura for me from now on.

That's the price you pay for getting your car serviced at Acura.
I just got my 30k done and it ran me around $350. I did look at a garage that dealt specifically with honda/acura, but they were charging about the same also.

All you can do is grin and bear it

I believe that's due to the oil change. If you use regular oil, you will notice the smoothness with new oil. With Mobil 1, it's smooth all the time.

I just had my 15k done.

Here's what was on the menu for 15,000m/12month:

- oil and filter
- inspect f/r brake discs, calipers and pads
- inspect steering operation, tie rod ends, steering box and boots
- inspect exhaust pipes and muffler
- check and refill fluids
- inspect and adjust clutch release arm travel (ok, not most of us)
- inspect power steering system and fluid
- inspect and tighten suspension mounting bolts
- inspect lights
- lube door, trunk, and hood hinges
- rotate tires and reset tire pressure
- inspect and flush ABS system
- clean fuel injection system
- clean throttle plates

you can turn it off, should be in the manual somewhere, otherwise just bring it into the dealership and they'll turn it off for you.

Standard dealer fluff - but shop rates being what they are today.

You also have to figure in the dealer's TCO - every time someone abuses the brakes or whines about a broken fog light, and the dealer comps it, they have to recover their profit, and these mileage services are one way to do so.

Just make sure they do everything they say - I had a mechanical lifter Mazda and at 60k they were supposed to do a valve adjustment - I marked the back of the valve cover with White Out, and when the car was returned, the line had not been broken - they had not even removed the cover! When I confronted them, they said "it did not need it". How lame. I said you must have x-ray vision, refund the total cost or I take it to Mazda, and ended up doing it myself. Since then, I always do just "menu" service - I let them do the things I do not want to do, and just pay for them a la carte.
