130,000 miles!! WOO HOO!

i just hit 130,000 miles today on my 2000 tl, its on the second tranny, and seems to be running strong......BUT is there anything i should be aware of or possibly needing to be replaced soon?? just in the past week i have been noticing a clunking noise when i turn a corner and hit a little bump or turn at a little faster speed than normal.....any idea what that could be?? is it something that i should be worried about???

thanks
-JAY

most likely suspension is wearing out... you may need new shocks

most likely ball joints are the cause of the noise. Shocks are probably worn out as well

well i got it checked out by the local acura dealer, and it was a steering linkage that snapped in 2 pieces, like a $25 piece and it ended up being $110 labor so all in all it ended up being something pretty cheap (considering i thought it could be struts or shocks, which would be a LOT more than $135)

please list the parts on the invoice and maybe a description of how they got broken?
Do you remember tagging a huge pothole at speed or object on the road?
Broken steering linkage- thats not good!

Have you changed the Timing bet and water pump? Also the plugs should be changed if they haven't. Seafoam is also like tune up in a can. I'd change out the fluids as necessary to keep everything fresh.

alright, the guy at acura told me it was a steering lincage, when it WAS actually a stabilizer

its number 4 and 5, that piece was totally snapped in half, and YES i do remember a time where i was going through a parking lot and the speed bump came out of no where and i NAILED it doing like 30.... but only one side broke....

I need to check mine out...I've got this annoying rattle when going over small bumps with the front right tire. I replaced ALL the motor mounts the other night and it's still there.

I found my rattle! It was the passenger side UPPER control arm. The bushing closest to the front of the car was worn enough that I could "jiggle" it with the car jacked up.

I was originally checking for ball joint & tie rod wear when I found it. I found a new replacement control arm assy on ebay for $30 plus shipping(it was for an 02 Accord but they are the same).

Now that annoying rattle is finally gone! Woo Hoo

130,000 and you are on 2nd transmission? Is this common for TL? 'cause I had 1998 civic with 233k on it and it was still on its 1st trans.

Unfortunately, this is a very common problem. I just went over 100,000 miles and I'm getting a transmission put in as we speak.

My motor mounts also needed to be replaced. My theory is that the mounts went, and then the rocking of the engine helped to destroy the transmission.

Is this means, it is to safe to say that TL is not a reliable car? I mean it is a japanese car.
Honda, Toyota can go over 100,000 and most likely they wont need a new trans.
How much does it cost to get a new trans put in?

I'm sorry, I'm a new TL's owner, and I'm surprised to hear about this.

If you all knew that this is common for TLs, why you got them in the first place?

the car is very reliable - the transmissions (5 speeds especially) are not very reliable. there was an extended warranty given by Honda for 7 years or 100k miles covering all transmissions (there are a few '03s that are not covered I believe). you can search all over this site to learn all you would ever want to know about this issue.

I have a '99 with the 4 speed and I have 139,000 miles on the original transmission

Cause many of us bought the car before the issue was known, or knew about it.

The car is very reliable. The trans has a design defect. Read up on it.

Not sure how it works in Canada but the warranty extension on the transmission is 93 months or 109K miles. I had mine replaced last week. My car's a 2000 TL and it had 77500 miles when I took it in and it was determined that the transmission was failing. I had been noticing the symptoms for about 5K miles though. Other than that, the car's bulletproof!

Its common for the front motor mount to fail and be noticed when the transmission is removed- very easy to see the fluid leaking out of it then
Its also quick to replace then, 3/10th of an hour compared to 3 hours when trans is in place, make sure they dont accidentally forget to tell the computer its- with trans removed-
the part is about $120 retail dealer price and 30 or so dollars to install

Be glad they found it, and enjoy driving a mostly new car. The engines are barely broken in at 100k miles, just slap on a new water pump and timing belt and go- thats amazing

canuks get bent over- no extended warranty for them- 50k and oh well,

like they are trying to tell the USA gen3 owners with failure now, sorry over warranty limit fo 50k miles

I smell a lawsuit coming from a mile away. I'm surprised Acura's lawyers' haven't done anything to prevent another day in court.

When did you replace it? I just bought the car last week and have an appointment with acura dealership this comong monday to do a maintenance. I will ask him to check the VIN to see if the previous owner got the new tranny for it yet or not and to see what is the warranty.

Do you think I'm in the right track right now?

I'm sorry. After I've been reading all of these problems I got nervous.
