100k mile warranty extension......

im at 45,000 miles, they said it would be 1600$ for 5 years, 100,000 miles......

is it worth it?!?!?! should i jus get the rattle fixed before 50k miles and forget the extension?? or has anyone had problems with their car after 50k miles
(i.e. a/c , power windows , rattles, etc.)

I've been on these boards for 1 1/2 years and the ONLY thing that seems to be a constant with the TL is squeaks & rattles, the warping rotors and that the tranny is going to fail. The tranny is covered by a warranty extension, you can fix the squeaks and rattles easily yourself (there are posts for all of 'em on this site so just do a search if you need info) and buying aftermarket rotors and pads will cost no where near what it would cost you to buy the overall warranty extension.

In my opinion then, there is no justification the spend the money for the warranty extension. Sure, you mght have something else fail besides whats listed above, but that would be an exception rather than the rule with the TL.

Have the rattles fixed before deciding on an extended warranty and/or double check the extended warranty. Many don't cover squeaks because they fall under interior trim.

don't most extended warranties extend the basic to 7 year, 100K miles? hopefully that is a typo for 5/100 because that means the extended warranty is up a year after the original one. or do you mean 5 more years after the original which is to say 9 year/100K miles???

Thats the decision you have to make for yourself. What you have to go on in making that choice is all of the data that you can get off this site regarding problems people have had with the car.

I listed the three issues that seem to be the only ones that ever get posted about. Meaning, its unlikely you will have other major mechanical failings. Its always possible, but those things that are expensive enough to fix would surely be posted about in a rant and rave by a member on this board if that was happening. And its not, so you can assume you are safe.

BTW, thats not to say stuff wont wear out from ordinary use over the life of the car, but will it cost you more than what you pay for the warranty? Probably, since most of the 'wear' items wont go until you get past 100k miles anyway. Things like CV boots, wheel bearings, tie rod ends, exhaust, etc...

But even if your radiator springs a leak at 95k miles, its not going to cost all that much to replace and certainly less than what you'd pay now to buy the warranty. For example, Honda gets like $350 for a radiator, but you can find perfectly good aftermarket ones for $110 and then add a few dollars for a new top and bottom hose and clamps (might as well replace them at the same time) some fresh Prestone and you can get the job done yourself in the driveway in under an hour for less than $200. I just did one for a friend's 98 accord, and it had 167k miles on it when it finally started weeping from the top seam.

I got a good deal on my extended warranty when I bought my car in Jan 01 - it's to 7/100K....ha! I just hit 66K ....so much for that 7 years nonsense.

They told me that was the only extended warranty option - 7 yrs/100K miles.

That kind of mod is going to void any warranty so if thats what you are thinking, then save your money for the mod. If you damaged your motor, you'd have to remove all the mods, put it all back together stock, before you could bring it to Acura, and then hope the dealer wasnt able to tell what you had done.

Ha! Actually there has been sporadic talk on and off about a SC kit for the TL. I know one is coming, but the price is going to be so high (i think like $5k) that it hardly seems worth it to gain another 35 HP. Even as great as that would be to have, its a very expensive mod for the result. Plus, who really knows if the TL drivetrain can handle it... in which case you shouldnt be expecting to get 100k+ miles out of the car in the first place.

well either way im getting the S/C for show and sponsorship reasons. and....i want it anyways =)

even though parts might retail for 4500$, theres no idiot that goes and buys it for that much.....

and im also talkin to acura and honda dealers to install under warranty. gwinnett place honda is already doing my friends accordv6 and its staying under their warranty.

if the dealer will install it and cover it under warranty then thats very cool! You know,in reality, if something does fail on the car later on thats directly attributable to the SC, the dealer would most likely have to withhold that info from Acura (that the car has a SC) otherwise the home office wouldnt approve the warranty repair and the dealer will be stuck eating the cost, which I can assure you the dealer isnt going to want to eat.

Navi Touch Screen - $650.00
Navi DVD unit - $450.00
Positional Gyros - $250.00 each
Labor - $60 / hour

I guess if you look at all of the electronics, where they are located, and the cost of repairing them if (heaven forbid)- if something were to happen, it's worth it...
