Exclamation 03 Type-S engine swap into 99 TL-P thread

Hello fellow 2G TL owners...Its been a while since I've visted..but it looks like there are some threads I want to check out.

As the title states I've got a 99 TL-P. The engine has near 300,000 miles, it still runs..but eventually I feel the trans will fail.

I have a 2003 TL-S complete parts car, and I wondered exactly what I would have to swap into the TL-P in order for it to run successfully.

Has this been done before?

I've got the original Keys and ECU for both swaps...Im sure I'd have to run the 03 type-s ECU in order for the engine and 5 speed auto trans to function properly, but I'm wondering If I would have to change the Dash harness for any reason? I'm thinking so since TL-P harness to the shift area would be for the 4 speed auto in the 99.

Are there any threads you guys know of related to this? And would it be possible? Searched the DIY, however couldn't find anything related to this topic.

Thanks!! Looking forward to figuring this out!

Why would you feel the Tranny will Fail? 4 Speedo TLers are less prone to Fail than ours POS 5 Speeders....

If you are doing the SWAP do it properly, 6 SPEEDO!.

Not sure if you caught the 300,000 miles part on the current 4 speed J32a1 (currently tends to slip)...I'd be doing the swap since it wouldn't cost anything except for time and a few seals, gaskets etc.

I've already got a CL-S 6 speed so unless a manual transmission and all other parts fell out of the sky, the TL is going to remain an automatic!

So would anything else be necessary in order for it to run correctly?

Yeah I Noticed the 300K But that doesnt Mean = Crap Transmission.
Our 1987 Pontiac 6000 with 527K its still running on its original 4 Speed Tranmission, On its 3rd Engine (Family Relic dont Ask).

Even if you Have a CL-S 6 Speed, a SWAP is Costly and if you are already on the boat why not do it right? You will spend more Money fixing the stupid 5 spd every 60K then the 6 speed will make much sence...

I dunno man maybe Im biased cuz I hate my 5 Spd but its your call! Good Luck on the Swap!!

Thanks I appreciate the link...as far as the 6 speed option...it would cost too much at this point...I feel I would have way to many parts to purchase and its out of my price range at the moment.

Once the 03 TL-S swap is in, the car would probably only be driven about 250 miles if that per month. so therefore it would take years for the 5 speed to malfunction hopefully....if it happens in the future let it be!

I already have a complete 03 type s parts car with the entire engine, transmission, ecu, harnesses, cluster, keys, etc. There is no need to purchase a swap at this point. the only thing that will be purchased is gaskets, fluids, belts and other general maintence items before it is installed.

I'm looking to swap the (03)J32a2 in to replace the original (99)j32a1...the car will be barely driven once completed just would like it to run errands and short trips around my town.

Back to the subject...Does anyone know if the vehicles mileage is stored in the ECU? I'd like to swap the 03's gauge cluster also so i'm sure I'm going to have to swap the complete dash harness...It would also be convienent if the mileage actually matched the engine/trans which is 150,xxx on the 03 type s swap.

You need to have the dealer program the key to the type-s ECU. Its the only way

Pretty sure the mileage is stored in the cluster, not the ECU.

Cluster. All cars I know of store it there. At Honda we were supposed to send the miles of the original so the replacement cluster would read the same as the original.

Have you tried looking up the part numbers on an acura site to compare both years? Swap the parts that aren't the same part number. Give that a shot.

There is an immobilizer module right by the ignition. The other part of it is IN the ECU.

All you have to do is take your car to the dealer and they will REPROGRAM your existing key to the new ECU. It cost me 45 bucks or so to have my Honda dealer do it for me when i swapped to a 6 speed.

2000 Acura rl 3.5 and 2003 Acura TL 3.2 swap?

Will the 3.5 motor and trans fit on the 2003 Acura TL? And if it does do I need to change the harness?
