'03 TL-S vs. '03 GTI 1.8T

The '03 GTI 1.8T is manual. Both are stock. What are the 1/4 and 0-60 times? Comparing HP, torque, weight, and will the turbo make a huge difference? Who will win?

Will it smoke me? Or will it be close? Would the tides turn if I had an comptech icebox?

The 1.8T in the GTI's is a very capable motor even with no mods. I'm not sure on the quarter mile times, I would estimate low 15's, but it'll hit 60 in 6.7 seconds. When they bumped the 1.8T's hp to 180, it got a nice increase in low end torque. I'd say that the GTI would beat a TL-S off the line, but the TL-S should have no problem catching up and probably getting ahead once it get mid to V-TEC range. The K03/K04 Turbo in the 1.8 is pretty small, and runs only around 7-8psi, so it's sole purpose is low/mid range torque. All in all, I think the TL-S should be able to take one without too much trouble.

One person says the GTI will win, another says the TL-S will win. I'm confused.

TL-S all the way

i have taken the 225hp Audi TT 6spd and beaten him by a quarter car of length at 105mph

the 1.8T motor was weak after 60mph, VTEC all the way

i have test driven the auto 1.8T GTI, it's very quick from start, but power fades out after 50mph, my TL feels a lot more power than that

not to mention the TL-S, which is faster

the Civic SI would be a gd matchup with the GTI, with similar power and size

The 1.8T doesnt really show any performance prowess until you start to mod it (i.e.: Autothority).

Finally! stock for stock the TLS wins, but the GTI is very moddable and a great little car. my friend had a 337 and that car was pretty nice. I smoked her on the highway.

my friend has an 01 1.8T and we raced on the highway like 3 times, sometimes i would win, sometimes he would, we went upto like 130ish and 2 of the 3 times i had like 2 cars on him. one time i guess we started off at around like 45mph which was his sweet spot and he had me by a car at like 120 or so. i dont think the TL-S will have any problem
i also raced a VR6 a few times and we stayed close the whole time. they are pretty quick tho. keep in mind i have a TL-P with heavy ass 18s...

My buddy has an '02 GTI 1.8T with a short ram, custom exhaust, and a chip (not sure what brand...probably APR or Autothority). The car runs about 220bhp at the crank, but it has close to 270 lb/ft of twist. My other buddy has a 2000 BoxsterS, and the GTI can run right with the Porsche without breaking a sweat. I was a hardcore Audi/VW enthusiast before i got into Hondas, and I still say that the 1.8T is the most tunable engine on the market today. It is so easy to extract massive amounts of power from it fairly easily, and it takes the mods without breaking a sweat. I've never run a 1.8T GTI, but I've run with a few VR6's and smoked them every time in my Coupe. Stock v.s stock, a TL-S should have little trouble with a 1.8T.

i beat a GLI VR6 two days ago, he was in front of me at a light and he gunned it so i followed, switched lane, and i pulled on him kinda fast.. and i have a TL-P with intake and headers.

the VR6 has 200hp, around 195 of torque, it weights like 3250lbs.. that's 16.25lbs/HP. it also has a 6 speed gearbox

the 1.8T has 180hp, 175 of torque and it weights around 3037lbs.
that's 16.87lbs/HP. it's 5 sp. stick.

so the VR6 is logically faster than a 1.8T.. if i can beat a VR6 with my TL-P... you can beat a 1.8T with ur TL-S

Ok, I'm glad, cuz I was doubting it. Everyone was saying it was such a fast car, but I didn't think so cuz it was stock and a 4 banger. The guy who drives it thinks he's a bad*ss and says his 0-60 is 5.6 sec. I knew that was BS.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that the 1.8T posts quicker 0-60 runs than the VR6. The VR6 makes a bit more power than the 1.8T, but you have to figure weight into it as well. The VR6 is much heavier than the 1.8T, which easily makes up for the diference in power

Just out of curiosity, what exactly is a stage 3 Turbo? I'm not trying to be a ****, but that sounds like something out of GT3 rather than an actual performance mod. You can upgrade the size of your turbo, change the wastegate spring, or use a boost controller to increase its power output, but i don't think there is an actual stage 3 turbo upgrade.

no? u must know a little then~

have u seen an Audi S4 putting on a Stage 3 turbo??? with 620hp on the wheel...and i have seen that on the self made video, it was somewhere in this fourm

u have not seen any Skylines or Evo having Stage 4 upgrades in real?? bring on the 220mph Supra with a skyline GTR engine, that's about 900hp on the wheel...these cars are crazy and will get u finish the quarter mile in less than 10 sec!!!
http://www.exvitermini.com/

and by the way, the mods u see in GT3 are real, they are not fake man...

and by the way, u probably don't see a lot ppl doing stage 3 or 4 turbo becoz they are not drivable for daily use, they are tuned for high end speed and has a little power at the low end...

I'm not so sure about the numbers thats samkws is posting but as far as the stage three nomenclature it has to do with the upgrades provided by certain companies. The one I am familiar with is APR:

Stage 1: Chip
Stage 2: Chip and Exhaust (maybe a few other things)
Stage 3: Chip, Exhaust, and Turbo upgrade. Some people refer to this as a stage 3 turbo upgrade.

To get one of these A4s to 360 awhp takes a whole lot of tuning though and definitely some race fuel. Not sure about hp numbers but there are a few A4s running in the high twelves.

I my brother has 03 GTI stock, i have a '99TL stock.
the GTI will smoke me off the line even when i do power breakin' method, but once i get to 90mhp or so im already cought up, by the time im on 125 (end of 3rd speed) im 2-3 cars ahead.

Now add 40Hp and 1 extra speed for the TL-s...

My 99 tl-p was able to beat a stock gti manual with no probs. I dusted him off the like by many many car lengths. And the highway was no joke. I raped em.
