I recently bought a preowned TL-S from a dealer(not an Acura dealer.) The car came with the standard 50k waranty, as well as a disclaimer that the Tranny had been replaced. I now have 47k miles and am worried that I may run out of warranty soon. The current tranny seems to be fine, and is giving me no signs of slippage, What kind of warranty coverage do I have on the tranny? I have heard 7 yr 100k on the tranny. Please help.

The 100k extended warranty should be valied for the transmisson, depending on when it was built. Not all 2003's are officially included in the warranty, though if it failed once, I am 90% positive it is an early 2003 (well, the high mileage on the car speaks to that too).

The current tranny could very well last the life of the car. It really isn't anything for you to worry about (nor is there anything you can do) but enjoy your car.

Thanks for the input. The build date on my car is 2/02. I am assuming this is one of the first '03's. Also, the vin indicates it was around the 300th '03. Does this mean that I have the extended 7yr 100k warranty??

Go to the Owners Link on acura.com website(you will need to register and should only take a minute) and type in your VIN. It will then let you know if you are covered under the 7yr warranty. If your not then your tranny should be fine, I'm not covered because apparently they have had no problems with that VIN range. Or just call any Acura dealer and give them your VIN, they can look it up for you too. I've done both.

Well my 03 wasn't one of the ones included in the list of extended coverage, but my tranny still failed. The dealer told me even though my car isnt on the list they would cover it b/c even the latest 03's were having problems.

Jake, you should be covered because I am and my vin is in the 3000s on my 03 TLS. If you don't feel any issues with the car then don't worry about it. Enjoy the car.

Really? Wow. You guys think if I added my SC and my tranny failed they would still cover it?

Yeah they should still cover it b/c Comptech parts don't effect warranty since dealers install them as well.

Okay, if my trany fails, and they replace it for free....is the problem fixed, have they found the cause and fixed the problem??? Thats my question.

I would hope that this is the case, although I am worried about a replacement trany that wont last as long as the original.

There are many stories of people on there 3RD TRANY!!!!

Acura has performed various upgrades over the course of the past 2 years. They claimed with each upgrade that they solved the problem. Real-world use (aka: not a lab) showed that their previous "fix" didn't resolve the problem. Reading the report that Honda submitted to the Fed's shows that Honda had LOTS of issues in regards to design .. programming and quality control.
Personally, I think all their fixes are band-aids .. and I was smart enough to bail from the Honda-slush-o-matic tranny into a 6speed before the big story broke .. so they were willing to deal.

Read the report .. draw your own conclusions.

Is it true that Trannys fixed after a certain date had the ECU replaced as well. Did this fix the problem. If so, when was the date that they began to replace the ECU?
