Man, the sheer level of detail you both put into your car AND documentation is astounding. Very inspiring!

Managed to finally find some time. Mounted up the jpipe with new bolts and gaskets, o2 sensors hooked up and exhaust is bolted up. Still need to finish welding the back half of the exhaust. Pulled a p0336 and wont rev past 2k, ill have to see if the sensor is good or swap for another ecu. Not really sure where is a good place to run the aem air fuel ratio sensor wires yet.

UA5_6MT, you may have already seen the thread below; however, when a p0336 appears it helped to check the transmission side crank sensor, as well, when trouble shooting for this code. Even in the absence of P0385 or P0386 codes for the tranny side CRK sensor, post #19. Tag search on p0336, there is a lot of good info. that may help.

Been awhile got a bunch of stuff done since, coolant system is bled and good to go, had the starter rebuilt, had to add another ground to the trans and chassis. I was having intermittent starting issues which probably burned out the old starter solenoid 🤷♂️. Wish i could post videos on here but cant post mp4.
I removed the blue film from the cluster and adder cool white 74 leds from diodedynamics, i will be removing them and adding an led strip down the road to have the cluster light up better. Also found an old oem key fob that i swapped the cover on and programmed to the car. I need to remote the hack job old remote starter and avital alarm, i will eventually upgrade it. I really hate when people who shouldn't touch cars, touch cars 👿
Rebuilt starter
This crimp tool has been a great investment
diodedynamics 74 leds
Removing the blue film
blue film removed
came out decent, but i will be adding an led strip to the back and getting rid of the 74 leds. After removing the blue film the white leds have a dead spot on the cluster now.
Doman remote cover from rockauto.com, not bad for $8 shipped

Great attention to detail!
Just curious, what kind of solvent are you using to remove the blue film?
It has to be mild to not cloud / harm the plastic, correct?

Excellent idea !!! I saw the Gorilla Clear Glue in the store the other day and wondered what it could be used. Hope it it works, I have to do our TL and couldn't figure out which glue to use.
Please post the results.

Bumppppin this back up with the updates! Exhaust is FINISHED and shes FINALLY on the ground 🤙. Still more and more stuff to do, but it runs and drives. Need to finish rolling the fenders/quarters, also need to adjust the clutch pedal and then i can test drive it.

That tedious gauge work really paid off!
UA5_6MT, how did you remedy the issue you had with the transmission mounting beam / transmission mounts and the raised innovative 75a engine mounts you ran into? Maybe some pics?
You stated you were going to have to fab '...something out of stainless steel and poly urethane' in post #88?

If I recall correctly from messing with mine, the bulb behind the mileage gauge isn't tinted - there's a filter on the LCD screen that tints it. If you pop it open and carefully lift the LCD a tiny bit, you can pull it out.

I love my TL. that silver type s should make an amazing project car. side note how do i accure 5 posts? I tend to get picked on in car forums for asking dumb questions so i stay away but i need to make a post and it won't let me until i "accure" 5 posts and i can't figure out what that means exactly

Couldn't upload the video from my phone on here so i put it on YouTube. Heres the link to the exhaust clips, I'll try and get a drive by once it's road ready.

Nice, sounds pretty racey. It is a little higher pitched, but I know videos of exhausts rarely do them justice.
Very unique, if you played that clip to me blind I never would have guessed that was a J-series.

I just came across this thread and I wanted to scroll to the end to see how it turned out, but I love all the pics and the work you did, so I didn’t cheat!
First car I bought for myself was an 01 CL-S (used... and I got the 2 door because the 4 door base was more $$ than the 2 door typeS) so the 2G still has a special place in my heart.
2G 4 door manual is awesome!

The 2g tl should have came 6speed from the factory, i think they would have did a great job selling.

I wish they had as well, that way 6-speed supply would be increased and my CL-S6 would not have a huge 'bullseye', parked in the mall parking lot, to the selective learned miscreant.

Thanks, its still coming along. It's pretty much ready to go, just need to finish up a few things here and there. Taking my time with it, I'm just glad that the car is on the ground finally running and moving.
