02 Civic Si can beat us?

On the way home tonight a new si hatch was trying to race me, but there were too many cars on the road so I didn't bother. I followed him to his house and asked him if he wanted to run somewhere else. He said "No" because he would lose off the line, but he said he would beat me on the freeway and in auto-x because he claims to have beaten 2 Type S' already. I never raced him anyhow, but just wanted to know everyones opinion. BTW, all he had was an AEM CAI.

No Way! The new SI's are slower than the old ones. The best year was the 99 and my friend has one. He also has CAI and exaust. He gave up trying. Highway, dead stop, it doesn't matter. The new SI's are runnin 16.1 quaters

If the SI is close to stock there's no chance it can hang. Not even on a bad day. I've had a go at a few SI's, and have easily pulled away at highway speeds.

Our cars have lots of Torque (compared to other Hondas). I have owned about 8 of the high strung Honda 4 bangers in my past (including 2 S2000's) and the TLs will beat any of them at mid speeds without a problem (as long as you are in SS and have the rpms up to begin with). Most Honda high 4 bangers are fast off the line and fast after that because gearing keeps them in VTEC and in good torque range but if you catch an S2000 in mid speeds unprepared (under 6K rpms which means they have to shift down 2 gears normally), you'd spank them.

My last ride was a 99 Si with quite a few mods.....I raced a TL-S in it and got beaten by a carlength.....and the new Si is slower than the old one.....he wouldn't have a chance. What is really funny is how he said he would lose off the line, but win on the freeway.....the Si would probably have the jump on the street for a second or two, but on the freeway the Si wouldn't even come close to the TL-S, or a TL-P for that matter. I've raced several Si's in my AV6 and have beaten them in races from a stop and on the highway.....they aren't very fast unless they have some MAJOR mods done to them.

Civics may seem like an easy target, but don't let that fool you. Some civics with engine swap are unexpectedly fast. You can never tell what's under the hood.

I knew I would've beaten him on the freeway, but the guy just gave me an excuse and said he couldn't race right now.

uh, no. i've owned an Integra R, and i know plenty about motor swaps.. no civic hatch with just an R motor is going to keep up with an NSX, unless it's boosted.

Agreed.... And that’s only in a strait line, it would be impossible for a civic to act like an NSX or S2000 on a reat track unless you spend 25K to make it completely race prepped.

But people are still comparing apples and oranges. Were talking stock Vs Stock. If you want to talk about suped up cars fine, that suped up civic can come up against a Comptec supercharged TL or even turbo'ed TL also.

I agree with everyone that a lightly modded Si can't touch the TLS power/speed-wise but the guy was right that autocrossing would be a different matter.

If it's got a 2 foot high rear spoiler, clear tails, and blue neon lights underneath it then maybe, otherwise I'd say not a chance
