0-60 GTech Runs update (resonator removed)

Many of you may have seen my previous thread about my GTech Pro runs. I have a small update.

I removed my intake resonator box and added a K&N filter. Tonight, under similar conditions stated in the previous thread, I got two great runs in a row, with TCS on:

6.59 secs 0-60
6.70 secs 0-60

That handily beats my previous times by over 1/10th of a second. Not bad for $35 and a half hours work.

The low engine growl at WOT is cool. However, I hate the whistling sound the intake now makes. These times are great, but I'm really thinking about putting the resonator back in... the whistling sound really makes the car sound cheap..

Oh one interesting note: these runs were made with my fuel tank almost full (over 3/4 full for sure). I would think that that the weight of the fuel would make more difference than it does.. how much does a gallon of gas weigh anyway?

Thoughts? Comments?

Talking

now you need to get a CAI or short ram and try it.

You should have gotten the comptech highflow instead of the K&N. All intakes make the whistling noise, I found that the short ram to be the loudest and the comptech filter is the quitest, but they all make it.

A gallon of gas weights a GALLON.... I guess aprox. 6-8 pounds

Keeping in mind that a "gallon" is a measurement of volume, not mass or weight--from a technical standpoint a gallon cannot weigh a "gallon."

Now, as to how much a gallon can "weigh", it depends on a few factors which I'm sure the physics gurus on this board can spell out in more technical detail...

I was J/K.....that's why I put how many pounds I thought a gallon of gas would weight.

wut do u mean, u removed the intake resonator? so u bought an intake? or did u just open up the box, take out the stock filter, and put in a K and N filter? if it is just the filter, thats great times for that price. but all the filters ive seen r twice as much... nothing under $55. ne1 in westchester know of a place that sells it for less?

I sorta figured you probably knew that, hence the wink smiley. The comment was really meant for those people out there who may mistakenly believe that a gallon is a unit of mass or weight...and if anything, a gallon weighs more towards the 8-lb end...

Good runs, Mentl. Say you had 14 gal in there but would have had 3 anyway (1/8 tank), that's a reduction of 11 gal or about 88 lbs or so (if fuel weighs 8 lbs per gal). The typical saying is "one tenth per 100 lbs", so say in the quarter you ran a 15.30; give yourself a 15.22, or something along those lines. These are assumptions of course but I hope you get the general idea. Your change in 0-60 I am not educated on, so I can't help you there.

if yours is like mine, and there's a rubber boot between the uper box and the lower resonator...if you reinstall the boot the sound will go away the idle whistle

The "weight" of the gallon of gas truly depends on the density of the fuel itself and in theory "weight" is the measured force of gravity pulling down on the certain item.

sorry, im kinda confused, can sum1 please help. i dont know too much ab under the hood upgrades.
tell me if this is correct

Mentl got better time bc he took out his stock filter and used a drop in K and N filter.

but what about removing the resonator? is that bad for ur car? where is it located? and how do i do it?

BUT, he claimed that this made a rattling noise typa deal. and then TYPER explained that if u take the boot off and then put it back on, then the noise will go away?

sorry, dont know much ab this ****, and im trying to learn new things

After you take the resonator out go get some dryer hose piping from home depot and run it from the stock intake box to the front grill.

Much more noticable at highway speeds and cooler air.

That did the trick! No more whistling. Resonator stays out

Jaydef: do a search on "resonator" and you'll get the complete story on removing yours. Most agree that doing this and changing to a better air filter will give you a tad more power, as well as better sound. Some believe that your low-end suffers.. I don't have any way to measure that, so I can't say.
