Tires suggestion

I have Privat Rennstadt 8.5x19. Current tires Faulken 255/40-19.

What are my options beside the size that I have?

The straight equivalent to stock 245/50-17 is 245/40-19, for all practical purposes, identical in diameter. The 255/40-19 is about 1.4% larger, still within tolerance, but not technically the "correct" size. Both sizes will work. Look at the usual web sites for various choices...both sizes are expensive, as I am sure you know.

This has all been said before, but I have not visited for a month or two...

Thanks for the info. I couldn't find it in garage.

245/40/19 or 255/40/19 are your best options. A 255 will fit the 8.5" wheel better. I highly suggest something from Michelin, Bridgestone, Continental, Pirelli or Yokohama. Michelin and Bridgestone make the best tires out there but they are pretty expensive. Goodyear is decent too, just stay away from the Eagle GT. That tire is probably the worst product Goodyear has released in the last decade.

Are these going to be for summer only? If they need to be used during the winter months your options will become much more limited...

Tires would be 3 season (spring, summer, fall). I have stock wheels with Blizzaks for winter.

Thanks for the tip on tire size.

Does anyone know anything about Cooper tire brand? Seems like a good balance of money/quality. Thanks.

I like current Falken (255/40-19) riding qualities but hate the noise they make.

So far my favorite tire has and will probably be the Toyo Versado.

I have zero complaints about my Continental DWS tires. With 19"s, you should be able to get DW since you have a winter set.

How's the tread noise on the Contis? Have you got enough miles on yet to see how the noise develops as the tread starts to wear down a bit?

With previous cars I've had really bad luck with tires that are quiet when new but become noisier than studded winters after ten or fifteen thousand miles puts a bit of wear into them.

They are decent. I would put them at the lower end of the mid-grade tire scale, below brands like Continental, Pirelli, Yokohama, Nitto and Toyo. Definitely not my first choice in a tire brand but they are decent. Expect them to get much louder over time, more so than most tires.

Every tire is going to get noiser as it wears down. That's just the nature of tires. The DWS has received a lot of complaints about excessive road noise after they're halfway worn. If you want something that stay relatively quiet through the majority of its life get a Michelin.

Actually with previous vehicles I've found Michelins to be among the worst when it comes to getting noisy fast. Maybe it's the RL's quiet cabin but I find the tire noise is really noticeable.

You can try Hankook Ventus V12. THey are great in wet, low noise. Very high rated economical tire. Look up some reviews =) Only downfall I have with them is soft sidewall. So if you like to take hard corners don't even bother.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports are great tires for me, so far. A "non-winter" tire, they're great in the dry and the rain, stick like glue and are quiet(er) than the oem's ever were. A little tick down in MPG, but I did just average 27.7 from LA to San Diego, so I am not complaining at all.
