TEIN or H&R **coilovers** - anyone tried them??
I'm on a quest to make my RL handle better but still ride smoothly enough that it's nice for daily driving..
I test drove an RL with aspes and honestly, it seemed too stiff.
I am considering H&Rs on stock shocks. Several people here have those and like them, and their descriptions of the ride sounds like what i want.. slightly firmer, not bouncy or harsh, with a great drop. Only potential downside is premature shock wear? although I think a few people here are a few years into H&R install and no signs of shock wear reported...
ONE other option, albeit a $$ one, is to go with TEINs or H&R coilovers...... I hae seen them listed on the web for about $1300 for the H&R setup and $1700-1900 for the TEIN... I know the TEINs give you the option of an EDFC so you can adjust the shocks on the fly..
for the price... if I went coilovers, I would think the H&Rs would be the best bang for the buck.. my question is this..
would the ride with H&R or Tein coilovers, essentially be much like aspec or like H&R springs alone - or would it be better? how?
also, an you adjust the shock firmness on the H&R setup? i know it's paire to a spring setup..but can you manipulate the shock rate like you can on Koni sports/yellows or Tokico Illuminas?? I had a set of those shocks on former cars and THAT was great. I could crank them to stiff for when I wanted it firm, but if I got tired of it, it was a 5 min job to jus adjust them to soft...
bang the buck, it seems like just doing H&R would be the best bet..as long as the ride is not too bad... if the shocks go bad, one coudl buy new OEM shocks, and get them installed, and still have spent less money than buying the H&R or Teins...

i googled for coilovers and several sites list them and have a price...but I didn't call and actually try to order it.. from my google search it looks like it exists...
i don't think the H&R setup allows you to adjust rebound,damping.. only height...

^ Yes a little over. The EDFC itself cost about $300 or so.
I don't know if TEIN still makes the coilover for the KB1. Supposely, I got the last set from TEIN USA. But you can still special order it from your dependable aftermarket tuner shop.
I'll be taking out my coilover next year since my lease is up on my RL and I will have TEIN to overhaul my coilover and put it up for sale.

A buddy of mine just EDCF installed on his Lexus GS 430, and it cost about $400 to do a nice professional installation into the center console and routing wires through the firewall to the fronts, and along the floor to the rears, so factor that into your costs.
