Some pictures of my RL with the new Elbrus 102 wheels

I took these with my phone this morning, so please excuse the poor quality.
I am very happy with this set. Wheels are Elbrus 102 and tires are Continental ExtremeContact DWS size 245/45/18.
Car has stock suspension.

Looks good! How do you like the Continental tires compared to the Pilot HX MXM 4 tires?

So far ...i have not had a chance to test them in rain, but on dry pavement, they are very quiet, smooth and handling is slightly better. I need to add more air. I read that these tires behave a lot better when they have a few extra psi's in them.

18x8 ...offset is 42, i believe!
They are about 26lbs/each

Wheels fit flush with the fenders. Very nice fit!

Look nice. I am looking to put the same on mine. Did the nice fit with 42mm offset mean they didn't have to use spacers? Where did you buy them/have installed. I am in the same area and looking to do the same but will probably go with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus's or perhaps Bridgestone Tourenza.

any thoughts / concerns with 255/35-20 or 255/40-19?

Chas2 11-07-2009 07:00 AM

Immdeiate thoughts without doing the research, I would check to see that the rolling diameter is as close as possible to the stock size to prevent speedo and odo errors. The same speed data is fed to computers in the car for various systems from engine management, to VSA to ABS to SHAWD and I am sure others, assume a 26.7 inch diameter tire in their programming. I think accepted tolerances are plus minus 2%, or at least that is what I have been using as a rule of thumb for years, though I try to stick with plus minus 1% if at all possible. Use the 1010 Tire calculator as a quick and dirty. Check the option box to give you a listing of all tires in those sizes. It is not everything, but a gives you a good idea of the majority of the tires out there.

I would also check your wheel width. The design guidelines for low profile tires 50% aspect ratio and shorter are less forgiving, and if I recall, 255 section width needs a minimum of 8.5 inch.
