there's one thing to keep in mind with either Conti's or Michelins, your brakes aren't going to be anywehere near good enough to slow you down once you get going.

So...summer tires on the RL are really overkill. Btw, I was buying tires in 245/45/18 size and they were definitely below $180 a tire...at least back in the day.

If you plan to blow them up I suggest getting them from www.discounttiredirect.com who sell separate warranty and ship new tires without a question or a return. They also price match.

Either way you go, make sure you got enough room to stop.

I opted to be smart / practical - and buy the Pilot Sport A/S+... they may not be quite as fun as the PSS in the dry... but when I get an entire year or more of use out of them, my wallet will be happy... Besides, the $200 I saved paid for my H&R springs...

Tires go on Tuesday. I'm going to try and get my springs installed sometime this week as well. found a local speed shop that will do it for $150.

Hard to go wrong with Michelins either way. Good choice. Good price on the spring install too. Make sure you get the alignment checked after the drop and new tires.

I really wanted to get the PSS but I really don't want to be dropping another $1000 on tires for a while.. I'm going to try an sell my 17s.. They have A/S+ on them that I bought 1.5 years ago... Hopefully I can recoup some money there! What do u all think I can get for them?

These nre tires will be fine- not as hardcore as PSS, but good enough.

They will last a good 4-5 years for me.. And the lower profile coined with my new springs will make the whole package feel great.. It will be enough to put a smile on my face I'm sure!

Had a set of Sport A/2 and wore them down to almost bald....A little over 50K miles on them mostly freeway. Great tire. Road noise got louder and ride wasn't as smooth as the treads wore down.

Decided to go with the Pilot SS's. Any new tire is better than bald tires but WOW! Incredible. These things seriously stick to the road like the IRS on Wesley Snipes. The profile of the tire is more "muscle car" with the rounder edges but I can't see the tires when the SH-AWD kicks in while cornering off the freeway ramp.

I'm anxious to see what kind've longevity I get. Discount/American Tire $1228 out the door with tax.

I have had my Pilot Sport A/S+ for a few weeks now. Overall I"m happy with the car. I noticed a big difference by going to 18s... car rode firmer..not drastically, but enough that I could feel it. The springs made another increase in firmness, but again, nothign drastic.

i still feel the shocks compress / and body roll when I pitch the car into hard turns..but it handles better than before... but it's not totally flat. honestly, i wouldn't mind more firmness and less body roll... but i'd probably have to go to new shocks to get that?

I also wonder if the sidewalls of the A/S+ are still somewhat soft and are flexing???

I have a 30 day window of time where I can turn in the A/S+ and replace them... I am also tempted to turn them in and get the PSS....

i wonder if the sidewalls of the PSS are firmer and will cause turn in to be crisper / firmer... i still feel like there is slop when I turn the car into a turn...

overall though..i'm happy with what I have...but it could be better.

Mayflowerman - you are making me want to trade these in for the PSS!!!

Run those tires up around 37psi and you'll feel less sidewall squirm.

Road & Track's August edition has a multi-tire test of Summer UHP tires for sedans and coupes. Of the ten, the PSS wins their nod for best tire.

It's not on line yet, but here's a quote from their first look at the tires: "Compared to other tires present at the test—the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A, Goodyear Eagle F1, the Continental ContiSportContact and even Michelin’s own Pilot Sport 2, the Super Sport’s increased dry handling and stability under braking is appreciable. Even in the wet, the new Michelins seem to grip the asphalt with more confidence. Compared to the Pilot Sport 2, the Super Sport laps about 1.5 sec faster on a racetrack, can stop almost 5 feet shorter from 62 mph in the dry, and stop nearly 10 feet shorter from about 50 mph to 5 mph in the wet. On top of that, the new tires have a 10-percent longer life."

Plus, they smell like Old Spice Red.

Yeah, I noted that, too. In the latest test, they used the Extremes. (Being Extreme, those smell like AXE.)

Yes, "Road & Track's August edition" which is not online yet. If you'd like to know what they thought the first time, scroll up. If you want the new article, go to the dentist and pick up a magazine. I did.
