PAX tires??

I am probably purchasing an 07 RL with the Tech and CMBS PAX package. I want to change the wheels as soon as possible but, after reading many posts on here I am confused with the Pax or DePax issue.

Can I just buy new wheels and tires? or will I get an idiot light on the dash??

I want to put H&R Springs with 20s. I found a good deal on this car but am starting to think I dont want the CMBS Pax package???

I have been reading but dont quite understant the Pax thing is there some sort of electronic sensor in the car like the TPMS??

In my last few Acuras I just put the TPMS sensor in my new wheels and everything was fine is that possible with the RL and this PAX thing???

Pax

I had the PAX tire/wheels replaced/exchanged on my 06 RL when I purchased it. The Acura dealer just switched out the tire/wheel assemblies with a brand new RL on the lot (they also took the spare tire and jack out of the donor RL to put in my RL).

No problems with any warning lights. The std Michelin tire and wheels already had the TPMS sensors in them.

I run 50k a year and did not want the expense of replacing PAX tires each year. I also travel to some very remote areas that would not have PAX tire service equipment. I also always want a spare tire no matter what tire is on my vehicles.

PS. I too had a 2003 CL-S, but mine was the 6 speed with Navi......One of my favorite cars and one of the slickest 6 speed short throw sticks. Ran it for 4 years and 183k miles and drove and looked as new when I sold it to Car Max in 2007. Great car.

Thanks for the quick reply, I might have them switch out the tires also.

Just as an FYI, my dealer won't de-Pax a car saying it's a liability issue. If they de-Pax and yo sell your car to someone who doesn't know it's been de-Paxed and they get into an accident they can claim was de-Pax related, the de-Paxing dealer could have some liability.

Don't know how accurate this is as clearly, some dealers do de-Pax, but that's what they told me.

The biggest issue with de-PAXing is that the car doesn't know that it no longer has PAX tires on it. On PAX-equipped RL's, when a tire loses pressure, a warning comes on in the MID with a mileage countdown that tells the driver it's safe to drive on the tire until the countdown reaches zero. If the car has been de-PAXed, the warnings will still be there, as Acura and the dealers will not re-program the car, and it could cause a safety issue if the car has regular tires. This is the major liability issue with de-PAXing, especially if the driver is unaware what tires are on the car - the car could indicate it's safe to keep driving when it's not.

Get it! I would put up with potential warnings/issues for CMBS and ACC.
