New TOYO VERSIDO Tires

I have owned my 2005 RL for two years now and I like most everyone on this site have hated the OEM Tires that Acura put on these cars. I was going to put the more expensive Michelin's on but I wasn't excited about spend $1000 in the hopes that the car would be quieter and maybe better in the snow.

A dealer friend of mine heard that Toyo had introduced a new line of tires for upper end Japanese cars called VERSIDO's. I have never owned a Toyo tire before so I was a little unsure. I went to the Toyo web site and read about these new tires and well they did a good job at getting my attention. The reason being is that they explain about the individual treads being embossed to quite the tires. You can easily see this on the tires if you are looking.

Well I had the tires installed and driving the car home I noticed that the steering input required about thirty percent less effort which felt good. However the tires were just as noisy as the originals. How do I know this, well I bought a DB meter from Radio Shack and measured the sound levels at 60 and 80 MPH. I was very disappointed but hoped for the best with the snow coming.

The silver lining to the story is that when the tires hit about 300 miles it was like someone hit a switch and the interior noise level dropped 10DB which is VERY noticeable. I can now listen to the sound system at a lower level and talk on the phone easier. The only problem now is that I used to drive on the highway at 80MPH and because the car is so much quieter I find myself driving an average of 100MPH because the sound level at 100 is now what it used to be at 80. I know it sounds crazy but you get used to the way your car sounds at different speeds.

I also found out that when you get these tires installed the tires are not worn down to the embossing that quites them so that is why it took the 300 miles. I would have no hesitation recomending these tires to anyone at this point. The only thing left will be as to how they handle the snow. I live in the Northeast and the old tires were so bad for me that I left my four wheel drive car in the garage when it snowed and used my son's Audi A4. I will post again once I have had the chance to check them out in the snow.

RL owners rejoice!!!

Regards,
Paul G.

Ok, I'm shopping around for new tires and the road noise is my biggest concern. My local tire shop recommend the Toyo's as a good tire for commute driving becuase of the high tread life and they're so quiet. The tires that are current on my 05 TL are super high performance Yoko's. I realize that I'm not going to get the performance out of the Toyo's because they're more of a touring tire, but I'm fine with that. Would you say that they are still responsive enough to preform for the car, or do you have that "floating" feel like some touring tires can give? Thanks for the review on the Toyo's. You really helped my decision so far.

Toyo Versado LX

I've come across these also; but don't own them ....yet
Here in the Boston area the best price I've gotten is $194.00 each. I can't wait to get rid of the OEM Michelins and try these out.

I put the Vesados on both an Audi A4 (1.8t) and an 03 TL and was quite satisifed with both. At the time I bought them from Direct Tire in Norwood, MA they were a lot less expensive than almost anything else, maybe a promotion or more common size.

Just got them from treaddepot.com for $ 175 each plus I found a $ 50 off promo code ( DCTD50 ) online. With shipping I got them for $ 705. I am very happy with them so far. I have had them out in 2 good snow storms over the past few weeks and they performed very well. They are also much quieter then the OEMs. I would reccommend these as an all season OEM replacement.

Thanks for the feedback... I figure it's either these or the Bridgestone Serenity but they are more $$$

I bought the turanza serenity's about a month ago and like them. Very quiet and they handle well. The one issue with the toyo is that if you are traveling and have to replace a tire, it might be harder to find than a bridgestone.

Wow, $700 for 4 shipped to my house... thanks! I might have to call them to see what their return policy is... say if you get a bad tire that won't balance.

Also see http://www.groupawheels.com on Long Island has a continuous listing on eBay - $299 for two Versado's. Almost driving distance for me.

I've had the Versados on my 05 RL for about 5 months now. They drive and grip very good and are excellent in winter and snow. They are a great deal too, I paid about $850 installed including road hazard for replacement in case they pop from Firestone using my friends employee discount. All the other tires were easily going for at at least around 1100 when I was shopping around.

We just had a good snow here in Va, IMO these tires performed no better than any other all season tire.

I couldnt agree more with all of the great comments about the Toyos. Best 700 I've spent.

Apologies for waking a thread from the dead but, being in need of new tires for my '05 RL, I searched the forum and found multiple references to these tires until finally finding this thread with great options on where to source them. Living in Chicago the link to Tiresdirect.net with Addison pickup looks like a great option; TD is selling these in 245/50/17 right now for $155.85/ea, free pickup in Addison (1/2 hour to 45 min's drive depending on traffic), and even offers mounting ($15/ea) and balancing ($15/ea) right there. I'll probably call tomorrow and set this up.

Sad thing is I've been at the cusp of getting rid of this car but don't really like buying new cars in winter so I'll throw some new rubber on it and ride it out through one more season and then get something new next year. I'll report back on my experience both with the tires and the vendor.

Thanks for the info, very helpful!
