New Tires hitting Wheel Well?

Hello everyone!

I read the sticky for the tire size, and i picked tires that matched, and my local discount tire seemed to "know best" and pick different things than me. Today is the first day I went on the highway with them, and when i went over a couple bumps, it seems as though my wheels might be hitting my wheel wells? That's what it sounds like, anyways.

Here is what I got:

235 /55 R17 99H SL BSW Yokohama YK740 GTX

I know that's not one of the sizes, but the tire shop assured me it'sd be A OK size. What should i do? I can't imagine this is good for my new tires, but it only happened 2x on an off-ramp on my commute, and very briefly. Looking at them on the car, they seem to be quite large for the well, though. If i get a chance, I'll add a photo in a bit.

What should I do? Do I need to take them back? I've probably put 30 miles on them, plus whatever it takes to get them back to the shop, so maybe 50 miles total. Will they take them back? How should I handle this?

Go back to them and tell them they done messed up... .. idiots

Show them that calculator and the fact that now you have a large tire in there from stock size. it's funny because some shops will flat out deny your install if you have a different diameter tire (costco does this for sure.)

as you can see from your online calculations, the tire is a little bit taller than your OEM.
can you check your tire(s)/fenders to see where it is rubbing? you'll see evidence of rubber on fender or slices in tire

So they should take them back no problems? I just de-paxed, so they might claim that i was going away from OEM anyways?

If they're the ones that suggested it, they should fix it. You may have to escalate the issue.

So I just ran out to my work's parking lot and checked, and I didn't see any evidence on the tire or in the wheel well. Like i said, it was just a brief moment 2x on 2 of the tires, i think.

Here's a photo:

as you continue to drive and put wear on the tire, the tire will essentially shave down. I would not worry about it, if it only happened twice.

additionally, tires are not uniform, as in...Different brands will be more thicker/wider or may be more narrow depending on brand

I almost feel like the shop just didn't want to lose that sale so just found the closest thing that would fit OP and throw it on there.

OK. The tires have a 60k warranty on them, so even if they get down to replacement after 20-30k miles, i only have to pay the pro-rated difference for new tires so that's something i've got going for me, if this keeps happening.

well, the thing is...it does fit!
it's under the 3% variance...

I'm betting it's the brand of tire, which could be more meaty BUT shouldnt be an issue if he continues to drive. normal driving will "wear" the tire normally shaving off millimetres of the total diameter

that's if he chooses to do nothing but drive!
he has a choice, if he wants to pursue the tire shop or not

Is the 3% variance an industry standard? I guess I can see if it keeps happening...

My only concern with not dealing with it is in the off chance that my car is full of people and a full trunk and then it DOES matter... In my 8 months of owning the car i've only ever had a passenger 1x though, so i guess it's not likely that i will be filling the car up anytime soon...

but as you drive, the tire will wear!!
eventually, will not rub any longer!

you dont want to go any higher or lower than 3% because speedometer will be off.

you can still see what you options are, if you go talk to the tire shop!!!
talk to them. see what they say.
