New tires

Hey guys/gals,
I have an 09 RL and looking to replace the tires. What are your recommendations for a set of all season tires?

Looks like Michelin pilot hx mxm4 where original tires.

Thanks in advance

BS serenity, great tires, long lasting, quiet and solid handling. Also, relatively cheaper than michelin

Search around the forum. You'll find tons of reviews. Some of the top contenders are Continental Extreme Contact DWS, Bridgestone Turanza Serentiy Plus, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and the Michelin Primacy MXM4. The continental is definitely the most bang for your buck but they tend to wear more quickly than most expected and have had some sidewall issues.

Got maybe 40k on the BS Turanza been happy with them.

Depending where you live, I hear the DWS are good for light snow. Not a replacement for snow tire if you say live in Minnesota ... but for yeah we get a good week of snow on n off in winter

Comments on the tires people have mentioned:

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S - great tire, used them for nearly 40k miles on the RL. Great performers to the last day of their service life.

Conti DWS - good tire, using them on my convertible. But I am getting mild vibration issues at 70 mph from the front after 4k miles - easily fixed by tire rotation I think .

And then two lower priced ones I have used:

Falken Azenis PT722 - good tire, currently on the RL with 18x8 aftermarket rims. No issues, quite grippy and I did not pay too much for them. Would definitely buy again.

Hankook Winter iCept Evo310 - very tough to balance, serious vibration issues when used on the RL initially with OEM rims. Finally settled down after road force balancing. Regular balancing just would not cut it. Did a great job handling a snow storm on a ski trip last winter. Going back on the RL in a couple of months.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. After reading reviews I'm going to get the Continental DWS.

Tire rack has two DWS listed (link below). The only difference I see is the service description one is 96Y @ $186. The other is 100Y @ $200. What's the difference and does it matter?

The 100Y is the newer tread compound that is supposed to wear a little better than the old one. Not that it matters though. Unless you have a 2-wheeler I don't think the 2 96Y tires they have are going to do you any good and the 100Y version is on backorder.

Just an FYI, most of your local tire vendors will match TireRack's price after shipping. Then you actually have a local shop to take your tires to in case you need servicing or warranty work done.

Thanks bdogg.

Yeah I did see 96y only had 2 in stock. I wanted to know the difference when buying at a local retailer.

I just bought the BS Serenity Plus and love the quiet ride but the tread pattern doesn't look like they will be good in any snow. We get about 2 weeks worth every winter. I'm thinking of exchanging them for the Cont DWS. Anyone have experience with both tires and snow?

I just put the Bridgestone Serenity Plus on my wife's RL. I immediately noticed the ride was much smoother over road imperfections, etc. Seems to be a good tire. I preferred the look of the Michelin's, but the Serenity's are $100 cheaper per tire. BTW - my wife drove the car 3 or 4 times and says "Oh, I didn't even notice"....ugh!

The fun part about tires is that they wear over time, so the first day you put a new pair on it should feel smoother if you have been driving it.

I can get how your wife didnt notice if she isnt the usual driver.

Any opinions on Michelin Pilot Hx MXM4 vs. Primacy MXM4?

I'd like a smooth and quiet ride. Anyone have one of these tires on their RL, feedback please.

Thanks

The only reason the Primacy MXM4 is not on the top of my list here is because of its lower than OEM speed rating. I wouldn't put an H rated tire on the RL.

Every tire gets louder as it wears. Michelins actually stay quieter through their life than most. If you're speaking about the Pilot A/S Plus I understand where you're coming from. I was disappointed in the amount of noise they made as they wore when we put them on the TL. In Michelin's defense though, those tires do have a fairly aggressive tread design.

Tirerack has the primacy listed as a V tire or am I reading it wrong?
