How to RESET PAX ???

Hello All,

I wanted to thank those of your who have chimed in on my other post. I have installed all the TPMS sensors on my new wheels and rims. I believe they are working because the MID displays the pressure for all tires. What I am having issues with is the PAX system. It is erroring out stating I have a flat on my driverside rear tire. Is there any way to RESET this. I have researched all posts Regarding PAX and still have not found what I am looking for. Step by Step instructions on Resetting the PAX system. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Anthony

There is an Acura Service News issue (link on this site) that outlines the correct procedure for re-setting the PAX MID display. It was published because the procedure outlined in the shop manual is incorrect. Can't tell you exactly what issue it was in, but if you can't find it I will dig out the printed copy I added to my shop manual to determine the date. The procedure is quite involved to gain access to the reset of the PAX system -- I'm guessing that it is a lot easier if you have a diagnostic code reader with reset capability.

That's where I saw it! Thanks Jack!

Here it is.

October 2006 Service News

S/M Fix: Clearing the PAX SYSTEM WARNING Message; ’05–06 RL

When a tire goes flat or it’s very low on pressure
on a ’05–06 RL equipped with Michelin® PAX
System™ tires, the low tire pressure indicator
comes on and you see a PAX SYSTEM
WARNING, RUN FLAT DRIVING, MAX 50MPH
message on the MID. After the tire is repaired or
replaced, you’ve got to clear the message and
reset the PAX mileage counter, no matter how far
the car was driven in the run-flat mode.
The procedure to clear the message and reset the
counter (it’s titled “Resetting the PAX System
Warning”) on page 18-85 of the ’05–06 RL S/M is
wrong. Here’s how it should read:

1. Put the gauge control module into its
self-diagnostic mode:
• Turn the headlight switch to ON.
• Press and hold the SEL RESET button on
the steering wheel.
• Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
• Within 5 seconds, turn the headlight switch
to AUTO, then to ON, and then back to
AUTO.
• Within 5 seconds, release the SEL RESET
button, then push and release the button
three more times.

2. Once the gauge control module is in its
self-diagnostic mode, press and hold the INFO
button on the steering wheel for 5 seconds to
get to the CUSTOMIZE MENU on the MID.

3. Use the INFO button to scroll to the PAX
RESET screen, then press the SEL RESET
button.

4. Use the INFO button to scroll to the applicable
wheel, then press the SEL RESET button to
clear the message and reset the PAX mileage
counter. The MID should then read PAX
RESET COMPLETED. Repeat this step for
each wheel that needs to be reset.

5. Use the INFO button to scroll to EXIT, then
press the SEL RESET button.

6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) to leave
the self-diagnostic mode.
Cross out the procedure in your copies of the S/M,
and make a note to use this procedure instead.
This change will be reflected in ISIS.

Once again thanks for your help. I am attempting to follow these instructions to the letter and can not come up with the pax reset menu.

What should the self diagnostic mode look like ?

The customize menu I have does not have anything regarding PAX. I have the following options; meter, keyless entry, lights, sounds , etc...

If someone could elaborate further I would really appreciate it. This PAX warning light is erking the ish out of me.

You need to read the rest of the procedure in the Service Manual which is online in the 2G RL Garage sticky. I have not accessed it to see if you need to hook the car up to HDS or not. You may have to have that or a scan gauge, in which case, probably just go to the dealer.

Garage Navigation

Hey Chas

Thanks for the input. If you could help me navigate through the garage to get to the information I need I would really appreciate it. Took the car to the dealer and they are useless. Thanks again

Go to this thread

Look for the Service Manual link. You have to sign up, I think. I would download all 70+ pdf chapters so you have it on hand. The chapter titles are relatively helpful. I am at a different computer, so I do not have the files at hand.

Correction to Instructions

Thanks for posting this info.

One correction, though. In the directions, all references to turning the headlights ON should be changed to turning them to PARK.

If you are successful in getting to the diagnostic mode, it will be very obvious. All the lights cycle on and off and the gauge needles go back and forth like windshield washers. After that, you can't miss the PAX reset dialog when you follow the rest of the directions.

Thanks, Subdave. Tedious to have to remove messages from the Nav and then have to do this process too! Great info though
