I was out running an errand and my PAX warning light came on
. Last time that happened, i was out $1300, 4 days, and didn't get so much as lube from the dealership.![what](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/what.gif)
Offset. Metric. Assymetric. Clearing calipers. Have have working knowledge in 3 languages, but TIRE-speak isn't one of them.
What do I need to know? Can I just go to my local tire store and have them put on 17" or 18" wheels and tires? Do I really need All-season or Touring tires? If I wanted A-Spec wheels, where do I start?

I believe 18" wheels would be your best option, tire size 245/45/18. You would need to test fit front rims as the BBK on the front are picky about what they clear.
TireRack.com will give you a good idea of which tire is good and financially makes sense. I would recommend the Ultra high Performance in the all season category unless you need snow/summer separate sets.
I guess you may want to consider buying a spare tire as well.

if you want wheels that will fit perfect and cause no problems, try this site: www.ronjonwheels.com
he's also good about getting 114x5 wheels drilled to the 120x5 that the RL uses so that expands your options quite a bit.

There are several previous threads about "de-paxing" that should help out. Don't forget to pick up a spare tire kit. Along with brake caliper clearance issues, just make sure you are getting something that fits prior to pulling the trigger on new wheels and tires.
+1 on the 18" wheels, plenty of tire options in 245/45/R18.

I depaxed my 07 rl, cost 2k out the door.. I got 4 wheels, 4 yakohama s drive ( i think), and wheel locks and 4 tpms sensors. I picked out some 180 Rims off tire rack (18's).. I'm pretty happy just don't have a spare, but knock on wood haven't need one. Also have towing so can use that. Anyway pax seem to get a lot more nails and fixing is way too expensive. Once I paid 200 for a nail and waited 3 hours. It sucked. I had a lot of nails too. Anyway I needed 4 new tires, so decided to go against the pax. I would not recommend them to anyone even if they are a little smoother and drive nicely. They are a real pain to fix, replace, etc...I went to my local tire guy "Larry's Tires" in hayward, ca. It was no big deal for them to change them.

if you need a spare, i'm sure you could soruce the litle doughnut tire we all have for not uch money... i think the trunk has a space for that but NOT full size spare... just buy a doughnut spare... or make sure you have paid up on your roadside assistance!
get new wheels and tires. call ronjon he will hook you up.
don't buy wheels at the tire shop w/out researching online, they will rape you and charge you too m uch. shop online, then if you want, buy at the shop and get them to price match.
