Here's an idea. Don't slam your RL. It will look stupid.

Tein and Mugen are the only coilovers available. A-Spec will drop you an inch, H&R springs will drop you 2.4".

"Can someone give me ideas?" is like opening the gates before a flood.

If it makes you feel better ble124, I think the Teins and H&Rs can look sharp. It's when the wheels start to get covered by the fenders that it looks stupid. But, that's my opinion.

^This got me thinking...

ble124, get the Teins or H&Rs and throw three hundred pounds of wood in the trunk. Or stereo equipment. Either one would work. Problem solved.

If you do the system right, you will need extra batteries. I'm thinking of going this route for that extra 1".

I'd like to think I don't look stupid on my A-specs... but I was 21 and slamming everything too so I get it.

Just remember to check that the wheels will clear the calipers and that this car has a LOT of electronics and AWD so try not to tear it up to bad.

I will save my comments for these wheels.

There is a large misconception out there that making your wheels bigger will make your car higher. This is not the case. The difference in how much larger your wheels get will be taken away by making your tire sidewall that much smaller. I hear people all the time claim a no-drop car with large wheels looks like a 4x4, but I have yet to see a case like that when the tires are sized correctly. Needless to say, go with the H&Rs if you want maximum drop for minimum $$$. If you can afford it ($2k), the Teins are a great choice too.

Good luck! Post pics, but dot expect too much approval for those wheels from the older crowd in the RL section. 3G TL will think they are "dope".

Yup, I went from stock 17 to Aspec 18 and adjusted for it in the tire size.

The car height did not change.

if you size the tires right.. car height will NOT change... BUT... I have seen plenty of people who put on low profile tires on tehir upsized wheels.. and YES.. it will look like a 4x4...

while the overall circumference of the tire/wheel combo will be the same on a 17", 18", or 19" wheel setup... when you account for properly sized tires..with decreasing sidewalls as the wheel size increase... i.e.. a 17" wheel with larger sidewalls is the same circumference as the 19" wheel with small sidewall tires...

BUT....

visually... the low profile tires accentuates the pre-existing wheel gap. when you have the OEM 17s... the wheel gap is less prominent. when you go to 19's on low pro tires..suddenly the wheel gap is staring you in the face saying "4X4!!!"

it's true. look at the ppl who put 19s on their RLs and didn't drop them. they look lame.

drop them.. they look bad a$$...

if you upsize your wheels.. please do us a favor and lower your car.

18"s, no drop:

And my favorite, 19" RJ Inspyres with no drop. Too bad they quit making 5x120.

I just don't see the issue without a drop. It looks the same to me as stock. I agree that a drop looks better, but that is equally true for 17" stockies.

I'm in the market for coilovers too. Anyone have pics of Teins CST lowered all the way down? Would like to see a picture since the specs are only Lowering F/R: -1.2/-0.7 Inches Down

Here is a pic of Touge's old RL lowered all the way on Teins, but the drop is over two inches. Not sure where you got those numbers.

Supreme, if you worried about not going low enough, there are ways to make it lower then the coilover can go. im pretty sure there are threads out there that talk about it.

Info? Yes I'm worried it won't be low enough for me haha. Deciding between H&R coilovers (if i can find them) and Tein CST. Would like to compare both of them all the way down

H&R are not coil overs for the RL, they only come in spring setup.
i use to have h&r springs with stock struts and shocks, and my current setup Tein Comfort Sports are at the same height as the H&R height. so if you look at my thread, that is about the same height as H&R but Im pretty sure there at least a dozen photos with H&R setups.

you can research or ask your local performace shop about going lower on the tein setup.

btw i don't recommend or promote you to do this at all, but you can always just cut your springs, that will give you the lowest ride!!! will feel like shit and fuck up all your suspension components.

They have coilovers for H&R. Only problem is that you will have to reuse the stock strut mounts...as opposed to the Tein which is a direct replacement.

And don't cut your springs!

Here are some cheap H&R coilovers for the RL:

We have had the coilover convos many times, and no one was ever able to find H&Rs in stock.

i never read anything either...maybe cause everyone thought there weren't any coilovers by H&R hahah....prob stiffer. Anyways, no point in getting it since you might have to get oem strut mounts (assuming you never changed your stock) and I heard its kinda pricey...by that time, tein is gonna be the cheaper choice! plus, mono tube vs twin tube!

$235 for 1.5" or $1,800+ for 2". Seems worth it to me.

You are correct in expecting that. They don't. 1.5" front, 1.4" rear. Sorry 'bout that.
