Anyone ever hear of Roda tires??

A bit off topic but interesting....

I'm am known as the unofficial "car guy" where I work, and people ask me questions regularly about their vehicles.

A woman asked me why her tires would go bald after only 8000 miles, so I went out and looked at them...they were nearly slicks, but what made me go was the name of the tire.... Roda I believe they were rx04 for the type.

I have never heard of these tires before...a Google search shows they make bicycle tires, but I can't find anything about car tires.

Anyone hear of these?

Sounds like a cheap brand of tires.
Cheap being the key word.

How sure are you of the brand name? Is it possible that was random word on the sidewall? "Roda" is Portuguese for "wheel", and there is no indication that they sell tires in the US from what I can find.

why and try to find the etymology of the word?

its just a cheap tire.
She got what she paid for.

and if she didnt perform a tire rotation; in between those 8k miles.....
are ALL 4 bald?

have her maintain her tires correctly.
correct tire pressure.
rotating every 6k miles, etc.

I just dont see the effort in finding the brand "roda"

Why care so much about what people do on the internet when they are at work?
Why only capitalize 2 of your sentences?

lump had a question and I am trying to help answer it. You are just trolling.

I see your activity is back to 100%...

Back on topic....I went and rechecked now that the sun is out and can see better, and also cleaned off the tire a bit....it's RADAR Tires RPX-800.

Looks like you get them thru Sears...so never mind and sorry for the mistake.

Looks like I would avoid them like the plague...

cheap tire is cheap tire, 007.

I answered the question..."avoid them like the plague"

and guess what!?
lump came to that same conclusion

Cut him some slack crab man, he wrecked his ride, knocked up the wife, and is over worked.

lump, I would have to think that the lady got ripped off if she paid anywhere near MSRP. THE RPX-900 has a treadwear rating of 360 and a tread life of 45k miles. I would advise her to pay her tire shop a visit. Is it possible she got used tires?

I am a smart guy. I am smart enough to find out there is no such thing as a Roda tire before blurting out responses. The problem is that you are answering a question that you have no information on. Your response is ignorant. You are answering a question regarding "Roda" tires when in reality there is no such thing as a "Roda" tire. Is the RADAR a cheap tire? Yeah, it has a low price. Why did hers wear out in "8000" miles? Who knows given that reviews give it a great wearing score.

I hate to tell you but all the tire place is going to tell her husband is that you get what you pay for when it comes to tires. Unless she paid Michelin money for Radar tires, I don't think she has a leg to stand on. There are about a dozen or so big companies that make quality tires. Everything else is complete garbage. Tell your coworker to shell out some money for real tires, get an alignment, keep up with air pressure and rotations and go on with life.

BTW, the tire guys are used to dealing with the "angry badass" husband. He doesn't scare them. Lol.

Really? Even after "8000" miles? I don't care if I spend $200/set. I would expect at least 20k. Is there no warranty/guarantee with "cheap" tires?

Not usually warrantied. Also, we don't know what kind of car it is, how she drives, where she drives, how well the car is maintained, etc. There are a lot of things that factor into tire wear. And yes, I've seen plenty of tires wear out in less than 10k miles.

It's a 2003 Honda Civic EX 185/65-15 and she's getting a new set under warranty after the husband went to the tire place(Sears) and complained. It pays to keep all your paperwork.

I guess 16k miles for $300 isn't too bad.

It's kinda weird that Sears.com doesn't show the -800 as an available model and the review I found was a UK site. Ask her how these hold up in 6 months and revive the thread.

Nice. Now tell her husband to stop putting his old lady on shitty tires... unless thats his plan.

Sears has always been good with replacements and warranties IMO. Keep us posted on if they actually come through.

Just talked to her...the tires she had were "discontinued"

I gave her a list from tire rack yesterday, and she is going to have them drop shipped and installed at the same place I got my tires....

Heavy...already gave her husband a hard time about that.
