ANY aftermarket shocks or struts?

I ran a site-wide google search looking for any posts on the 2G forum. Didn't find too much. Plenty in the other forums though.

Has anyone had experience with any 3rd party shocks/struts as an OEM replacement, or even a slight step up in performance without altering ride height?

Are there any Honda's or Acura's that would have similar spec'd struts/shocks?

The reason I ask is I just had the front left strut let go on my 05 (fluid is leaking out) and I'm always interested in looking 3rd party. I've had plenty of good experience with Koni and Eibach with previous cars I've owned. I'm not looking to go crazy with it, drop the height or adjustable or whatever. I'll go with standard OEM if I have to. Would be nice to see some 3rd party solutions though.

thanks,

Rockauto.com has some cheap options for the RL, only front struts though. I believe the most notables would be the KYB GR2 which are pretty much OEM replacements.

Thanks.
Anyone have experience with these on the 2G RL? I thought I read a post where someone said they might be a bit bouncy. I did use KYB shocks in a truck I had years ago. Of course no comparison, but they did seem good quality in terms of build. Wish I could find all the exact spec's of the OEM struts/shocks. No luck so far. That could make it easier to find comparable replacements.

I remember reading a mixed bag of experience with the KYB replacement struts. IIRC someone replaced them within a year of getting them. On the other hand, more than a handful of members have put them on with no negative reviews so far.

I used them on an Accent once and worded for 9 years then sold car BUT I had to grind out a slot to get a 2 degree camber angle like the original shock had, tires wore evenly.

I wish koni made a shock for us

the problem with cars like del sol and RL they are very small numbers.
most companies are too lazy to move a finger when they don't see a massive profit

koni shocks can literally just take a shock and weld different brakets on it to make it fit RL but they chose not to

just like many other companies
the time it would take them to design a part that fits an RL is minimal. maybe few days of engineer;s time and ready to go....

best thing RL owners can do is bug the hell out of them and make it look like theres a lot of us that want the parts..
emailing the company
messaging on facebook etc

even a group buy
most companies always have a number in mind for minimum order before they move a finger.
so if theres enough interest they might release a limited number of orders if we get a hold of company like koni or others who are willing to modify a shock from similar car to fit on RL

^i suppose it wouldn't hurt to shoot them an email about something for the RL. Konis adjustables would be great.

if maybe few 100 of rl owners shoot them an email we might get some results
because all they have to do is weld a different bracket to a shock body they probably already produce for another car

i would love to have some koni yellows on this

I had put on A-spec Shocks on my 2005 Acura RL about 5 years ago....while it turn the car into a cornering demon...it's bucky ride, after 5 years finally got to me.
I replace the A-spec shocks with KYB's and wow, it does make quite a difference...rides better now and corners about the same..so win-win!.

everyone 's happy now..!

shocks

I have no issues with KYB I used them on an Accent and ran smooth and tight I would use them on my 2010 TSX when they are needed
because I don't like stiff suspension I liked the first generation style better.

koni page is on facebook
please shoot them a message
i already did
and from what i gathered they look for shops to tell them if there is any interest in certain model
which obviously not gonna be with RL
so its worth a try to contact them

i would definitely love to have some koni yellows to replace my oem shocks

I’ve been running kyb for 30k miles, seem good to me. Replaced original front struts and rear shocks at 90k, now at 125k. Still running everything else original, including mounts and other components. Potholes a bit rough, but still seems tight.
