adding HR springs need good tire size for 17s

about to install my HR springs but i feel i need to adjust my tire size to get a lowered factory look.. tires look to tall any advise? my first choice is to go 245/45/17 but that would put me an inch difference smaller which will throw off my speedo.. maybe 235/50/17 would be more suitable just over half inch smaller...

No need to change tire sizes. The lowering springs will be just fine. Putting a smaller tire on it will only increase the gap from the tire to the fender thus taking away some of that lowered look.

factory size is 245/50 which is about 26.7 diameter
the previous owner went taller on tire size to 235/55 = 27.2 diameter
i am about to lower it but i dont want to have big tires and look silly.. so im thinking of adjusting the diameter of the tire to get a lower profile look but keep it close to factory as i can..
245/45 = 25.7"
235/50 = 26.3"

I have a GREAT IDEA!

Put tires on that are the same size the designers intended the car to use.

dude im on a whole different level than you...you sound like my grandma saying crap like that. Im on this forum looking for technical feedback to customize my Rl and i dont need sarcastic feedback from some one who puts Led license plate and some ghetto system in their RL. haha designer didnt intend that... suprise you dont have sticker finder vents..

Whole different level than me... What is so technical about tire sizes? Bigger tires will make your speedometer and odometer read less than you actually travel. Smaller tires will make them read more. Those meters were DESIGNED to work with the circumference of the factory tire. It wasn't a sarcastic comment at all. It was completely serious. If you want a smaller sidewall, get a larger wheel.

If you really want to get technical, the larger tires the previous owner put on increased the amount of strain put on the diffs by an exponentially proportional amount compared to the size they should have been.

the mechanics of how many rotations per mile is well understood.. sacrificing 4 mile per hr and 10 - 15 extra rotations per mile is such a small sacrifice in regards to taking a big body RL and lowering it to the ground and modifying the tire size to touch up on the sport look. i bought the car with over size tires from factory size.. im just trying to bring it down a notch to grasp the look i want. who cares about odometer and mph accuracy.. gonna save me from a ticket maybe..

I don't understand what technical feedback you are seeking if you understand the odometer/speedometer offset. The strain on the drive-train will be less with smaller tires. It will be more with larger tires.

the feed back im looking for is if anyone done it yet and has any thing to aid me in my decision.. what does the drive train have any relevant to this... peope change tire and rims more than they change their underwear... mostly heavery and bigger diameter ... im only trying to go half inch smaller than factor.. how much will that affect my drive train compared to the people that put 22 or 24 which is so much larger than factory... going a bit smaller or bit larger wont affect a drivetrain much... if any

Maybe not much. Maybe more than you would think. Good luck on your information search.

I think you will be fine running smaller tires, but like BDogg pointed out, you are decreasing wheel gap by using springs, but then you increase wheel gap by running smaller tires. I was just suggesting running factory spec tires with H&Rs and you will look fine. Like this:

The only difference here (I believe) is these are TL rims and not RL. Still 17".

oo7spy, you messing with other members again? play nice. lol

hondacura12, Most of us recommend you stay with factory size tires. ticket? police will not notice the difference even if he/she has a RL themselves. thats our opinion, what more do you want for us. Excuse me, but if you can not take any criticism/sarcasm you shouldn't be posting here. (Real Talk*)

there is no way that those tires are the same as the 05 RL 245 50?

i saw that photo of Blazin's RL... I always thought the tires looked like they were either 40 or 45 series. I think the TL comes stock with 45 series? the tires on a TL look less like a doughnut than RL wheels... b/c the tires don't have a huge sidewall...

^Haha... I went searching in that thread and saw you ask like 3 times, but Blazing was dogging you with the cold shoulder. 037 eventually responded that TL's run 35s and these are 25.

You are correct. They are 25s. My mistake.

25s??? haha

they are probably 40 or 45 series. I beleive TL's come with 45 series tires on the 17" wheels.... my guess is that blazin put on 45 series tires... which is why these don't look like the RL wheels... RL's have a larger sidewall stock.... which takes away from the sporty look.

the H&R drop.. combined with shorter sidewalls make teh 17" wheels look a tad sportier.

if he had gone with an 18" wheel and dropped the sidewall itw oudl look even better...

has anyone tried to run 18".. like OEM aspecs... but put on shorter sidewalls? say a 40 series not the OEM 45 series???? if you had an H&R drop... it might look ok!
