Is there any downside to this? I tried searching for threads about this, but I couldn't find anything (or I was searching for the wrong keywords).

Can you put 245/45/17 tires on the stock wheels without the TPMS messing up?

Yes, but that is not what will mess up.

Try your VSA, ABS and SH-AWD which are all trying to deal with tire diameters almost 4% smaller than stock. The car sensors will believe you are moving much faster than you really are. Your speedo and odo will be off. Do not do it.

But your TPMS will work just fine, because all it does is measure air pressures.
