Hey guys, I had been shopping around for a 2nd gen RL to replace my 8th gen Accord Coupe v6 6MT for a while and found a 2005 RL Black on Black. I really wanted an 06 or newer but I could not pass this 05 up. It has Aspec chrome wheels, Aspec body kit, and possibly Aspec suspension (Maybe someone can confrim by looking at the pictures, I'll be looking at the part #s on the struts when I get a chance.) The owner had all work performed at an Acura dealer and I recieved every copy of the records. Carfax was clean. It drives really well, has had all the recalls and TSB's performed, and is super clean. Thanks to everyone for posting anything they ever have about this car. I've been reading past threads for months and feel comfortable with my knowledge of the car.

I won't be modding this car as heavily as I have my past vehicles as I want to retain the classiness it has. But some things I plan on adding are backup camera, DVD player w/aux and usb inputs, wood wheel, console/cupholder and shift knob, lip spoiler, window visors, legend badge, upgrading all lighting, CAI, ebc slotted front and rear rotors w/ ebc red stuff pads, and MAYBE some type of exhaust as long as I can make it quiet enough. I've already added a 10" jl audio w7 and jl audio 500/1 amp. It sounds good with the stock system. Below is a cell phone pic I took, when time permits I will detail the car and take some better photos.

I HAVE to ask... Why didn't you just buy an RL back in 08 (assuming you bought the Accord new)?

He bought the RL to lower his monthly payments. Bought the Accord brand new before he decided to buy a house two years later.

 

Congratulations on your new purchased. I said the same thing when I bought the RL" Don't plan on adding anything" and now I've spend more than 6k lol. I think you can't add a OEM back up camera on 05's models. Do you have photos on how you mounted the woofer.

 

Back in 08 I had a different mindset in what type of vehicle I wanted. I wanted something that looked good, had two doors, and was a sub 14 second manual car. I wound up getting the Accord up to 285whp and 265wtq with just three mods CAI, PCD and Jpipe. It was a rocket. But since I bought it new before I had a house my financial obligations changed and I wanted to buy something nice while manitaining the Honda/Acura reliability. So the RL or TL Type S came to mind and the RL won the war LOL I was looking at them back in 08 but I could not justify spending so much on a used vehicle. Hindsight is always 20/20 though.
Thanks but they are two different animals. The Accord has nothing the RL has, both are beautiful cars. Accord is faster and lighter but the RL is more refinied and carries much better ameneties. I wish I could have kept both.
LOL! Yea I'm sure the mod bug will bite me hard as it has with every other car. With the autotoys audio/video navi module you can add an aftermarket backup cam to the navi along with another video source which will be the mini car dvd player w/ usb and aux inputs. I can take photos no problem. Its nothing special though. The amp is actually under the passenger seat. I don't really like that but the power and ground wires were already ran under the carpet there and my rear passengers have had no problems with hitting it. But I'll still take the picture.

Welcome over bro. I traded my 08 Accord navi i4 only because the TL-P/Navi was the same price. I'm A&Fbro28 over there. You may remember my 1st 8th gen was totalled by a fllen tree 1 week after I got it..lol. Was ASM then went with TW.

How does the RL ride compared to a TL like mine or TL-S? Yours is gorgeous. Very classy and mature. I always wondered how the BOSE 5.1 Stereo sounded compared to the ELS... I think I'll listen to one at my dealer in a few weeks. They let me do whatever I want. I was even an employee at my dealer.

Looks like you have A-Spec suspension. Difference over stock is very obvious, one makes the car feel luxurious, the other makes it feel like your tires are over inflated.

 

nice pick up. I already consider a lot of that stuff on the car which counts as mods, the tint, kit, wheels and suspension.

Thanks man, thats what I was really going for. Was a more mature ride that could still turn heads. And the RL does that with ease. From what alot of people say, the Bose cannot compete w/ the ELS but I've heard the ELS and it really depends on how you tune the sound and what you are pushing in the trunk subwoofer wise. I am kinda liking the Bose better at the moment. As for the ride, since I have the aspec suspension its not buttery smooth but I took it on a trip and its very nice ride while still giving you enoughr oad feedback to know you are handling well. I'd say its a TL plushness with a TLS firmness if that makes any sense. thats cool your dealer still hooks you up too.

Your comment about the feel over inflated tires descirbes it to a tee. I like it though. It is one hell of an upgrade over my Accord, so it still feels luxurious to me but handles very well. Thanks for your comment!

Decided to paint the calipers this weekend. The stock look was killing me. This compliments the wheels nicer too. Let me know what you guys think.

Next I'm going to get some custom exhaust tips made either for an exhaust or just for the stock exhaust to fit the aspec rear lip better. And of course start working on those clear jdm side markers for the headlights and hid DRL. After that it might be maintenance time. Timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, all new fluids etc.

 

Nice gain, makes me want to get a 2G RL, but at the moment I'm set on the 3G TL. Anyway, I'm quite sure you will have a good time modding the RL. It's slower but more sophisticated.

 

Thanks. If you get the 3G TL, grab yourself a type s. You'll be kicking yourself for not getting it later down the road. I did the same thing with the 2G. Had the normal TL-P and had to go get the Type S.

The RL is alot quicker than I thought it'd be though.
