XM radio help (check antenna)
I just purchased a 2006 acura rl. The xm radio only receives certain stations not all, and it displays this message "check antenna". Does anyone know what this means. It is at the dealership today. They said they couldnt figure it out. Either a $150 software update a $200 antenna of possibly the xm receiver. None of which they could guarantee. Has anyone experienced this problem???

Could it be something as simple as a plug pulled out of the back of the radio or XM unit?
You'll have to pull the units to check but it's not all that difficult.

i got one of those manuals used by the dealer.... it state the steps to diagnose this error message. check the plug in the back of the xm modules, check the plug on the inside cover of the high mount brake light.... if all is well, it's the problem with the unit mounted nxt to the high mout brake light..... i'll scan the pages after i get home today

I had the same problem for about a month. I also have the iPod input kit which Acura used to sell. It started with the radio not recognizing the iPod input then the XM would only work part of the time with it having the check antenna the rest of the time. It would usually work fine for about 30 minutes then quit. After about a month of this the iPod input started working as well as the XM. It has been fine for about the last 8 month (knock on wood) and I have no idea why is started working again.
If you haven't tried have XM send a reset signal to your radio. I did do that a number of times and it could be what finally fixed it.

I have a 2006 MDX. I recently got the "check antenna message". The XM radio will not work now. Dealer charged me 100$ to tell me that I need a new antenna part and that XM Radio has them on back order until next year.

I just bought a pre-owned 2006 Acura RL. I am not getting any Error messages from my radio but I can only get about 1/2 of the XM Channels.
Called an Acura Dealer and they told me it could be anything from a bad antenna for about $250 to a new radio for $4000
Is there a way I can check this out for myself or at least less expensively. For those prices I can live without the rest of the channels?

Masscot, do you pay for a subscription?

Sorry I didn't realize I had replies. Yes I have a paid subscription. I have had a subscription for years and m familiar with what I am supposed to have for channels and I am missing any I used to get before this car. Example I can get CNN but now can't get HLN although I used to. XM tier 2 support tried everything they had but ended up telling me to take it to the dealer who wants $125 just to look and said could cost anywhere from another @125 to $4500 to fix depending.

I finally decided to bite the bullet and paid the $125 to get my problem with my XM radio officially diagnosed. They say I need a new antenna. Price A little over $1000 installed. I am thinking for that price there must be more to it than the Shark Fin. Does anyone know what would be everything that would be included fr that price? I can't afford that and figured I can probably get used parts off a wreck if I only knew what to get.

You need to go into a parts catalog with your exact year and trim settings. The 2007 tech I package does not have a shark fin. I believe the antenna is in the rear windshield. That would up the cost.
