I think I just found the answer to my original question, qouting from 12/2008 ServiceNews Bulletins. Guess I have to do some manual labor

Your client’s personal data is model
specific and will only load into a new navigation unit
with the same part number. This means you can’t
transfer that data, for instance, from a TSX to an RL.
