For those wanting a visual of an aftermarket radio in their RL
#3
Well as u can see I had to cut out the CD portion on the stock radio in order to fit the touch screen in,as well as the 2 side plastics on each side of the radio.once I was able to fit the radio in correctly ,I had to wire each speaker to the new radio. The factory amp did not work unfortunately with the new radio so I purchased a small amp and wired the radio to it ,with a bass control remote, which gives great sound and bass.I actually think it sounds way louder and clearer too.A couple of things that I had to lose was the volume control on the steering wheel which I will later on rewire so I can use it.I also lost where it would originally showed radio stations and temperture, which is no biggie, not to me anyway.Im pretty satisfied with the results....i gained bluetooth, back up camera and,DVD player which also got wired so I can watch movies while the car is in drive,[Kids love that part].

Another user here, fuzzysig, and I would really find it handy if you could get the temperature and clock display to work again, that would be awesome!! But all in all, good work!

It may not look like the best installment but I don't think it looks horrible either .But everybody has their own opinion. I like it so that's all that matters. Thanks for the feedback tho 👌

Curious, did you also get the Acura navigation to speak via the Boss stereo? I suppose if the after market stereo has CarPlay or Android Auto, then you have a much better navigation than stock anyway.

I respect all project of the other people but I think that's not the right way to do it... if I do something like this to mine is to change for car play
I have 2 aftermarket amplifiers in my trunk with 2 subwoofers 15" and I keep my oem amp for center dash and rear deck small speakers
and use a 4ch 4000w for doors and change the rear deck sub for full range all my speakers are PRV audio
my 15s are Kickers CompVR with db 2000w monoblock
and my sterio sound amazing with my oem radio

I've been looking at this on and off for the past few years now and finally made an account to ask this. How did you pull this off?? Everywhere I've been to says it's not possible due to not having a radio bracket. What size is the holder? Is it compatible with another car's or is it custom made?

There's no bracket or holder going on here - this is literally a big hole cut into the stock panel, and the new unit wired in directly. It's the only way to do it, nobody makes any aftermarket fitting kits for the RL.

Sorry this is years late but they do work. They're generic units of the FYT UIS7862 Android variety. I have one in my 2006 TL but they're pretty much the same units. They have a built-in canbus to control A/C and some other car-specific things. They use the factory sound system, though not in the best way. They seem to feed sound into the RL's system via the original aux. On top of that, they're not the cleanest input since they have a mosfet that amplifies the input to the factory system. It does work well enough minus a few audiophile caveats. They're not the best FYT units you can get but they are plug-n-play with a lot of third-party support. Seems to be the best option for the RL since there isn't any options via the third-party route unless you want to go through the long process of custom fabrication
