Question for anyone using the USA-Spec PA15-ACU-XL!

I recentlly extended my y harness cable so it would reach further and I cannot tell if it has affected quality or not.

One thing I noticed is that it sounds like more sound (and better quality sound) is coming from the left side of the car rather than the right.

To check this I set the balance all the way to the left (sounds pretty good and loud) and then all the way to the right (sounds softer and doesn't sound like I am hearing all the instruments).

Can any of you guys check this out real quick by hooking up your ipod and setting the balance all the way to the left/right and seeing if it sounds better on either side...I need to know if I need a new harness or not.

Try sitting in the passenger seat and see if you still notice it.

Tried that, definitely louder and on the driver side, im beginning to think this is just the way it was before but I can't be sure until someone with an unmodified harness tries it out.

I'm pretty sure mine has the same quality on both sides. But I'll check this afternoon when I get to the car. Mine came with an extremely long Y harness, so I am not sure why you had to extend yours?

What about other Audio sources? What did you use to make the splice connections?

I used 16 Guage stranded and I took extra care to replicate the cabling inside the existing harness (shielding around 4 pairs and shielding around other 4 pairs) the sound is actually pretty good just the slight difference in each side of the vehicle which is hard to notice unless you set the balance all to one side/other side.

I have only tried iPod interface, I will try a straight RCA connection when I get home, I drove to work today and could hardly tell the difference. I am going to do the wiring one more time, this time I will solder each wire (all 16 on each end lol) and use 20 guage (so the cable extension isn't an inch in diameter lol)

I meant like CD or Radio. You can't rule out your XM receiver, HU, Amp, or speaker connections unless the USA spec is the only source that does it.

Hmm thanks, I will try with the CD player, either way I cut out the old extension and have started over with 20 gauge solid core wire AND I am soldering each connection this time. I spent 4 hours last night doing this perfectly and I only got 1 half of the cable done. Whatever the result is I am going with it haha.

Sounds good on both sides for me. Although lately at random times, I'm unable to switch songs unless I do so using my iPhone. Music would play but my controls are frozen. I'd go into the audio screen and playlist, artist, songs, etc are blank.

Hmm interesting...sometimes when I switch albums it will go to the third or second song in the album but nothing like this. It may happen once every 30 album skips or something so not a big deal
