So I would call up USASpec and ask them about your car specifically...
Live Traffic is an XM service. Do you have an XM receiver in your car? If you do not, Acura probably did not bother to change the rest of the head unit. The XM receiver is a separate box tucked away in the trunk, but you probably still have the connections necessary for things to work.
I do not know what the XM foot print is in Canada, but there are three metro areas in Canada that have traffic coverage according to XM

That is mostly correct...and that is because they have the PA15 ACU XL specifically for Acuras that have the traffic capability. This will work with the RL, and every other late model Acura MDX, RDX, TL, TSX equipped with traffic capability, as well.
The HON3 works with non navigation base model of RL according to this link.

USASpec confirms PA15 ACU XL works in RL 2005-09
USASpec customer service confirms PA 15 ACU XL application for all RL models in an email:
The PA15 ACU XL works on all NAV RL radios frmo [sic] 2005-09
We just took a few days extra to confirm our models on the 2005-7 models
Thanks
in response to my email question:
The PA15 ACU XL is listed as not working for the 2005-2006 Acura RL. All 48 state models of these years came standard with factory navigation and Live Traffic The were no 48 states models without navigation and Live Traffic, unlike model years 2007-2010.
Are you saying that we who have these models year are left out in the cold, that neither this unit nor the HON3 will work for us?
Please clarify.
Thanks

This deserves a new thread. Let us know how it works out.

Our iPod connector also adds an additional Auxiliary input into your factory radio for audio device such as DVD player, Satellite radio tuner, or MP3 player.

Has anyone actually found and installed one of the new units? I've seen them both on ebay (pics show what seem to be newer units with the correct model #). The xl was $185! Autotoys claims to have it for $152 http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=12523
...and you can use a coupon for free shipping. Considering I don't yet have an ipod either, I was looking to see if anyone has confirmed it actually works. (text, control, etc)

Since the PA-15-ACU-XL uses the nav screen for it's display, does anyone know if it interferes in any way with use of the nav system or map display? Can you toggle betweent he iPod screen and nav/map?

Pa15 acu xl
I installed it in a 2007 MDX & it doesn't interfere with anything. The sound is better than using the aux input. One note, the unit doesn't plug into the back of the radio, it plugs into the xm module. The only thing you loose is the XM1 screen when the iPod is connected.

PA15-HON3 installation not yet successful
PA15-HON3 installation not yet successful
I received it from ipodcarpros.com and installed it. Doesn't work. XM didn't work now either. Uninstalled the Y-cable and plugged the original white connector back into the radio. XM worked again. Called USA Spec and told them about it. They suspected a bad cable, so they sent me a new one (very helpful, wanted me to be happy). Received it today, installed the 2nd cable, but still it doesn't work. No XM, no iPod interface. I will call them back tomorrow and give it one more try, but I'm about ready to give up.

Maybe I forgot to mention that I have a 2006 TL, so the HON3 should be the right unit. I just got off the phone with USA Spec again, and they are suspecting that the electronics unit may be faulty. Again, they are very willing to help figure out the problem. I know that it is early in the production of the HON3, so I understand there may be some glitches. I'm just hoping that we can figure it out soon.

PA15-HON3 is now working great!
As suspected by USA Spec, the electronics unit was faulty. It turned out to be an easy fix. Per their suggestion, I opened the case for the unit (just 4 Torx 10 screws) and found that the connector between two circuit boards wasn't fully seated. I pressed it together, resealed the case, and Voila! It works!
I routed the Y-cable through the center console. I mounted the electronics unit under the dual cupholders, on the left side so it is safely out of the way of the parking brake cable operation. I used some cable ties to keep it in place. I then drilled a 9/16" hole in the wall right above the 12V power receptacle and passed the iPod cable through to the lower armrest storage area and then pull the cable through so that the iPod can either be in the upper storage area, or pull out a little more cable to rest it on the closed sliding cup holder door. Another nice thing is that I have about 3' of excess iPod cable, so that if someone wanted to directly control the iPod from the back seat, it's no problem. Just pull out the extra cable!
Text display works great. The re-mapping of XM radio buttons is not exactly intuitive, but I'm sure I will get used to it. It is great being able to charge the iPod, use steering wheel controls, and see song info on the display. I also like having everything completely concealed with the iPod in the upper storage area of the armrest.
Kudos to the helpful folks at USA Spec for helping me figure this out! I know I had one of the early units produced, and I would expect units now shipping have fixed the connector issue.

When I looked this up for my 05 RL on ipodcarpros.com, I am getting directed to the PA15-ACUxl...I think...the chart is screwed up... Crutchfield says the car uses the PA15-HON3. Does anybody know the difference between this and the PA15-HON3?
