New Navi Update Disc...

...version 4.92 is available. Anyone have it yet? If you do, are there any major changes?

All the map updates are highlighted in yellow on the acuranavi.com website.

That would depend on what version you are using now.

If are using anything below 4.6x. there are a few changes including, a much faster calculation time for routes, at least for me in the mid atlantic area. I am only using 4.7x.

To me the 4.6x was a major update, however, it was problematic, and many 05 cars locked up with the 4.6x update, and had to revert back to 4.1x. My move from 4.3x to 4.6x was troublesome, but I got it to work with help from forum members.

So IMHO, If you have 4.5x or earlier, it is worth an update, so long as you understand you lose some features like the guy's voice. Look on the acura navi update web site to track the release changes.

I believe the real time traffic works better with 4.7x and up. I got the 4.6x and I'm desperate to move up...not so desperate to pay $185. I'm thinking we can do a group by and just make a copy...then push it on ebay at a loss of 20 bux.

I only had the 4.6x disc to test copying, that worked.

If anyone has a newer disc in the NY area I'd love to give that a shot too.

BlazingGT gave me a nice 4.8 that's so scratched up I can't even copy it...eesh.

white05rl 10-05-2010 08:45 PM

Is there anyway to get around the $185 posted price? Anyone have (or know where to get) a "coupon/promotion code"?

037 10-05-2010 09:51 PM

I think the cheapest way is to order from factory, copy, sell. Assuming after original install the copy works.

My :2cents:

I have 2005 as well.
If you are still running the original 2005 disk, there are significant updates in roads, POS, and the way traffic works (plus the male voice is no more).

That said, I experience a significant performance problem when doing searches (but I am on version just before the latest). After experiencing this several times, I am attributing it to the increase in POS in the database and perhaps the processor in the 2005 is not as fast as more recent models.

i'm current except for the last one. i figured if i updated every other year, i should be current enough and not spend a fortune. i don't remember my first update being so expensive and was hoping for a way to find a coupon/promotion code.

Searched the internet but found nothing. I got my current update disc (v4.81) through a promotion which offered it for $149.00.

If you use the link to the navi site, you can review what the updates are for your particular area. In my case, San Diego and LA have been well-mapped for quite a while, so the updates are only to the few newly-developed areas and changes in restaurants, etc... That's not enough to merit updating very often for me.

FWIW, I took an 05 out for a spin today that had 4.81 discs, and it is WAYYYY faster even just using the menu controls, etc than the system with original discs still in my 06. You can also change the colour of the displays, etc

In The Box!

To quote the update website:

2011 White DVD Map Update for 2005 RL and MDX v4.92

This package contains two DVDs; one DVD software update and one white DVD disc with map coverage for the 48 Contiguous United States, Hawaii and the Canadian border region.
So, what is new with the "DVD Software Update"?

Depending on what software version you have, you need to update software first (using DVD Software disk), then insert new DVD Map disk.

getakey 10-31-2010 07:06 PM

I should have added that I don't think there are any obvious functional changes in the software upgrade. Probably needed some updates to handle changes in data format. When I upgraded I noticed that traffic flow now starts appearing in segments during the first 5 minutes. Previously, all flow appeared at once after 5 minutes.
The male voice is also gone.

currently i am on 4.63, still wondering if the upgrade is worth 100. if it does speed up real time traffic that might be the selling point.

can anyone else confirm this?

Chas2 11-03-2010 03:56 PM

Cool!

$99.00 + 9.95 ship + local taxes is a lot better than 185 + 9.95 ship + local taxes

My experience is that the nav traffic time lag has very little to do with the car's nav unit or version. The traffic flow on the car is refreshed approx every 5 minutes through XM. It's the data collection/refresh upstream from XM that has time issues. And, the data comes from multiple sources, so flow on some roads is more timely/accurate than others.

I'm a little confused. I currently have the original discs that came with the car (2005 TL).

I've just ordered the new "orange" map update, is there another software disc I should get? If so, how?

Chas2 11-07-2010 08:58 PM

The TL uses a different system, thus the Orange disc. The RL was the first of a series of Acuras to use the White disc, which is not compatible with Orange disc hardware.
