Navteq reporter

Again, I'm new to this forum and am not interested in searching thousands of posts to see if this has already been posted. That said:

I just updated to the new Nav DVD and was disappointed and surprised to see that my kids school is not in the data base. I don't need that POI but it makes me wonder how many other POIs are missing. When I called Navteq they pointed me to a web site where I (you) can report missing POIs and other errors in their data base. Yes, we can all now do the work for Navteq for free.

Anyway, if you're interested, here is the web site. Sign up and become a Navteq reporter!

Screw navteq and the Acura interface. Every stand alone devices and smart phones have better maps and 3D view.

the hardware is the limiting factor.
all the hardware is based off of technology back in '05.

Technology from 2004 can't compete with state of the art technology?!?

So true but I don't want an additional Nav device attached to my dash. I did that with a Garmin for years with my 98 RL because the HD based data base was not updated after 02. Now I have the latest update and for the most part, I pretty happy with the interface. I hope the traffic info is useful. $4/mo is a decent price. I would rather have it on the nav device than look at my phone. I look there too much already.

The traffic is a joke for the most part. The majority of areas are delayed by as much as 30 minutes. This too is a fault of the technology's age. Many people here who had/have the traffic updates find it useless.

I would expect the new HondaLink/AcuraLink in the Accord/RLX to improve upon this drastically.

True but anyone knows the processing power of our units. Rendering the maps in a "3D" perspective, not actual 3D shouldn't be too resource hungry.

I would think a 3D perspective would be pretty easy to fix with a firmware upgrade/change. The next Nav DVD could do that. Maybe they'd sell a few more.

It will improve on the old unit forever.

Disk drives are a thing of the past. Solid state hard drives will be the way to go. Then, all you need for the latest and greatest upgrades is a computer and USB stick. Don't the TL and MDX have SSHDs now?

Yep means Honda can raise the price of maps and cut costs because they don't have to mail out DVD's.

I think the hacking community needs to get involved. If tuners can hack ECUs and TCUs, then a nav system should be a walk in the park.

I've used that Navteq input access to give them corrections and data, and the corrections I called in showed up in later disc revisions. Both were discovered using an MDX in Tahoe and San Diego and I used Google maps and a phone call to walk the tech right to the errors.

We own high-end phones and a nice handheld Garmin. I much prefer my in-dash system on the RL and the NavTraffic works great in SoCal. Use it all the time!

I would like to have REAL-TIME traffic on the RL display. Navteq is one of the largest companies sourcing traffic data but it is not real-time by a long way. I do not, however, think that Navteq is the issue, getting it to the display in a timely manner via XM seems to be the delay. As for the system in SoCal - I think it is borderline worthless so I dropped the service after paying for 6 years in the hope that it would improve.

Maybe the RLX will use Apple Maps!

I also do not like the pop up screens ALA Audi and CTS. It makes it seem like it's an add on and they forgot to design it into the dash. If you are going to have it pop out of the dash then you might as well stand your Garmin on the dash and get to use a real system.
