Naviation Display Problem
Hello,
I recently purchased a 2005 RL. I installed the factory navi CD a few weeks ago with no problem and added XM radio about 5 days ago. Over the last 3 days I have noticed that my display intermitnently goes blank then restarts to the initial screen that appears when the system is started. It then functions normally and no saved information is lost. other than temporarily losing the ability to use the large screen for information, my XM radio is unaffected. Has this happened to anyone else, or does anyone have an idea regarding the cause of this? Thanks!

Something is causing your NAVI to reboot.
It is not unheard of that this happens once in awhile. It may be something as simple as XM forcing a reboot to accept updates. This has happened to me 4-5 times in the 4 years I have owned my RL especially during the XM/Sirius merger.
You seem to have another issue causing the reboot. I would first check the NAVI DVD. If it is scratched, it may cause the NAVI to freeze or reboot. A member here once reported a scratched DVD and after polishing the scratch off the DVD, the reboot problem was cured. If you can get access to an alternate DVD and see if that cures the rebooting issue.
If the DVD looks fine, check the connections to the DVD drive mounted in the RLs trunk (where the DVD is loaded). A loose connector may cause the rebooting.
Next may be the DVD drive itself is faulty. A member here reported he shipped the DVD drive direct to alpine for a modest repair ($175?).
Hopefully it is a simple fix such as the DVD or the connectors.
