NAVI DVD versions

I have a 2006 RL with 3.5X Navi DVD version.

My G/F just bought a RDX with White DVD 4.55 version

New version has my street. old version does not. Can I copy this DVD and use it in my RL?

Thx

Lots of folks have tried to copy the TL nav disc with no success. Something in the disc won't copy or transfer correctly. Knock yourself out, all it will cost is several blank discs.

Well, you'll be violating copyright laws, but that's up to you and your conscience, I guess.

As for whether it will work, I suppose your best bet is to borrow her DVD, put it in your car and see if it works. Personally, I'll be surprised, since there are some posts on here suggesting the whole operating system is on the DVD, and it's probably not compatible with the RL's setup.

Oh, and you'll need a double-layer DVD blank and a writer that will do DL's.

A very close friend of mine has been running a DL-DVD backup of his navi disk for the last several months without incident.

Update...it's 4.31C in my RL.....Oops, didn't know I'd be breaking the law....never mind.

As to compatibility, the DVDs are both White, and have indentical writing on them save for the version number, so I'll try it when I get a chance.

Another update since I can't edit my previous messages after a certain time limit....

Went to the Acuranavi website to order latest version.......

4.31 available for my RL(I have 4.31C)

4.41 available for my G/F's RDX (It currently has 4.55!?!)

I'm gonna call when they're open and ask why they only have 4.41 on the website when new vehicles get 4.55.

Just talked to the Acuranavi DVD distribution center.....A very nice lady told me they are always behind version wise whatever comes from the factory. Weird.

Not sure if this helps, but looking at the Acura eStore site, it says the following:

" PLEASE NOTE: Currently, the 2005 FALL UPDATE VERSION is available for purchase. The new 2006 FALL UPDATE VERSION WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON. (PRICE: $185.00)".

Does this mean my recently purchased (as in this week!) RL has the older 2005 Fall Update version?

Appreciate any feedback. If indeed I have the '05 Fall edition, I'll go back to the dealer once the '06 version becomes available to request this one ... free!

Best,
Dave

I would try the DVD first in your RL to make sure it will even work. If it boots up with the new maps, etc put your old one back in.

I haven't tried to copy the NAVI ones yet. But I have done a few dvd movies to play with and it takes like 3 steps to copy a DVD properly. I am not sure if its required to do it the same way as the NAVI but I might start playing with this once I finish reinstalling all my software back on my home computer after a windows xp bsod screen. lol.

Interesting-the Acura site lists version 4.55 as the latest version for the 05 RL. ALso, all the 2007 models appear to use the same version (ie, 4.55)

If a new '06 RL's DVD gets scratched or stops working, will they replace it with latest version?

The copy didn't work or the original 4.55 disk from the RDX didn't work? I thought they were the same disks from acura as long as the version number is right. I've been running off a copied disk in my RDX for a few days now. Been messing with changing the startup screen so I have like 5 copies and they all work as far as the navigation goes. The startup screen however is a different story....

Be careful trying out a new disk. I could be wrong, but I think the new disk also contains a firmware upgrade that installs automatically, and also make the old disk incompatable.

interesting. I burned a new navi update for my Z (strictly for backup and educational purposes) and it burned and worked fine. First I had to update the software via a CDR and then load the burned copy. It was dual layer and I had to burn it very slow (like 2x) or I would get errors. Very time consuming process, but worth it. Too bad this wont work for Acura.

I just finished copying Version 4.31A as a backup. It works fine in my 2006 RL. I don't believe that violates any laws, but in any case the disc does not appear to be copy protected. I created an ISO file on my hard disk and burned the image on a double layer DVD.
