Left turn lights stay on even with car turned off

Turning on to the street in which I live, I used the left turn indicator and noticed that the light on the dash was solid and not blinking, "Oh, I must have a burned out bulb" I thought. When I parked in my garage and turned off the car I noticed that the left turn indicator on the dash was still lit even though the switch was in the neutral position. I got out of the car and noticed that all three turn lights (left front, side mirror, left rear) were on (and solid, not blinking). I got back in the car and started it, and tried moving the switch. When I moved it up for right signal, the lights would blink one time only. I tried the hazard switch. This caused the lights to blink one time only. During this time, the left lights stayed on with no blinking occuring. After turning of the car, I had to pull the hazard fuse to get the lights to turn off and not run down the battery.

Any ideas what would cause this, what I can look to fix?

Thanks

 Never heard that one...

I'm just guessing but I'd start with replacing the blinker aka relay for your turn signal. Should be cheap part and fairly straightforward replacement.

same.

are these LED bulbs by chance or stock?

zoobio 01-04-2017 05:37 PM

It's all stock lighting. I ordered a relay - no one has one in stock. Napa said a week and so I'm still waiting. Acura couldn't even order one - it's on "indefinite backorder". It's weird to drive without blinkers not to mention that I might get a ticket. I discovered that there are actually two relays - one is for making the clicking sound. I didn't order one of those so I'm really hoping that's not the problem.

Even though I don't have a replacement yet, I tried taking out the regular relay and I couldn't get it out. Is there a trick to it?

Thanks

Most relays pop out by pushing in 1 or 2 clips. You may need a flat head screwdriver. On my civic I was on my back under the steering column and it was VERY hard to remove the old one, but I could unplug it and just zip tie the new one to the board. Not sure how the RL is set up though.

grappler171 01-04-2017 07:32 PM

Did you order part# 38350-sja-004? I know that's the part for my RL. I have a 2011.

grappler171 01-04-2017 08:04 PM

Nvm I quoted you the part # for the relay 2(sounder). That isn't correct I don't think. Here is a diagram from my service manual.https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...0019c1bb4d.jpg

grappler171 01-04-2017 08:27 PM

38300-SDA-A01 is the oem part# for relay 1. There is an oem tool they recommend to use to pull the fuse, but anything you can grip it with should allow you to pull it.

zoobio 01-06-2017 06:24 PM

Do you know if the tool merely grips it to pull it out or if it also pushes in tabs or clips?
Thanks so much for the info!

grappler171 01-06-2017 11:03 PM

It is just to grip it without damaging it. Kind of like a fuse puller. You shouldn't NEED it though if you are replacing the part and you brace the panel from damage.

I have a turn signal / hazard relay sounder in hand. I looked at the pictures from what is called the service manual at G4: Service Manuals And TSBs - LegendWiki
and it doesn't directly show the relay though it shows the location as being behind the temperature sensor to the right of the steering column similar to what your picture from the service manual shows. By the way, that indoor temperature sensor which has a small squirrelcage fan inside of it, was very dirty, so it was good to be able to blow that out. Anyway, I removed that and see nothing back there that looks like the same shape as the relay I have. I do see something that is green colored attached to the sidewall of the center console. I think it is something else. Does your servide manual have a picture or diagram that shows exactly where the relay is and/or how to get it out?
Again, many thanks.

grappler171 01-07-2017 03:43 PM

I think that is the only diagram I have of the sounder. I wasn't thinking that was the issue as I thought it was the relay to the by the driver door near the floor. I have not had to open up under my steering column yet so no idea where the sounder is first hand.

Replacing the relay on the driver's side under dash behind the kick panel, part number 38300-SDA-A01, fixed the problem. A word of warning to anyone else with this problem: auto parts stores including online seem to view the sounder relay, which is 3 pronged, as the main relay, but I think it is not. The relay under the dash on the left side is the probably the main relay and it looks identical to the one used in the 2006 Accord. I was able to get one shipped to me overnight from Rock Auto 2006 ACURA RL Parts | RockAuto
It looks identical including all labelling to the one I pulled out. It was VERY difficult to pull out but it does not have any clips - it just pulls out. The parking brake is very much in the way and I thought seriously about trying to remove it. I'm glad I didn't!
Also, just fyi, both relays make the clicking sound and they are about equal in how loud they are. I'm guessing the RL has two to make sounds while the Accord just has the one.

Thanks everyone for your help!!

Here's a picture of what the main turn/hazard relay looks like:

Glad you got it all figured out! Excellent info to have here ty and more than happy to help however I can.

For my curiosity, I'd be interested if you could pop open the relay so we could examine the components inside. I don't hear of many turn signal relays failing but it sounds like yours obviously did in the closed position. I wonder why/how..

Merged with a thread that has the location, hope it helps!

wildwayne 05-15-2017 01:20 AM

im going for the led singal lights which relay should i change to the LED compliant relay? the green one or the black one?

projektvertx 05-15-2017 04:09 PM

When I changed the green one alone, the LED lights still behaved strangely and wouldn't work correctly. I never attempted the black one so I can't comment.
