Least expensive way to add backup camera to 05 RL
Hi all. I'm new to this site & haven't ever posted in a forum of any kind but since purchasing my 2005 RL about a month ago, I've become addicted to adding, fixing & pimping out my new ride! Therefore, they tell me that I gotta post 5x or something so if I'm doing this wrong, just politely let me know.
Here's one of my things I'm working on. I wanna add backup to my nav screen & I've looked through these DIY posts using something called DOM's thingymajiggy but I just ain't gonna be doing it myself. I've been talking to local audio/car stereo companies & basically, this is what I believe I've got to do to accomplish it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
A. Find an interface switcheroo thing that hooks into the lines from my nav dvd player to the nav screen, which will also tie into the reverse light so it comes on automatically when I place the transmission in reverse.
B. Choose a rearview camera style based upon availability for the type of mount system I can use, which seems to be the license plate frame style due to the trunk release button placement on the trunk lid, just above the plate itself.
C. Find competent installer for the best price in my area.
Now here's my questions:
1. Has anyone heard of this angrycamel site that sells the 20 pin interface for $65 shipped? Is that BS? Do I really have to spend up to $350 for this one little part? Really?
2. What is the best type of aftermarket camera to install? Do the ones with the LED lights around them look dumb & ostentatious on the back of the car? I had an 07 Odyssey with all these toys preinstalled so I'd like it to look like factory.
3. I've had labor prices of $125 to $250 to do this install for me. What's a legit amount to pay for this type work?
Thanks to any of you that respond to help me!
Lydia

The easiest and cheapest is the module piece that goes between the nav dvd unit and the wiring in the trunk. I think navtool is about 250 in the marketplace. Check it out.
Cameras Personally I think they are all pretty much the same. No sense paying 200 dollars for one just because it says pioneer etc. I myself just looked on ebay for something that was easy for me to mount in the location I wanted (above plate offset slightly to drivers side like stock), and had the same specs as the higher end units.
As far as install labor rate goes.... If the job is done well (all wiring run correctly like stock) and for about 2 hrs worth of work give or take. 125-200 isnt really out of the norm.
Never heard of the angry camel.

Correct, it seems to be an alternative to the nav2go harness. You still have to buy the nav2go module, and depending on what your car is, you have to buy a harness that interfaces between the car and the nav2go. In the case of an Acura RL, it seems to be a 20 pin harness.
