Have you set up the data connection with your phone and the RL? It is an additional step to do after the HFL pairing. Usually HFL will determine if your phone has data connectivity and ask you if you want to establish a data connection.
Go to SETUP> ACURALINK / MESSAGES > DATA CONNECTION in your NAVI system.
You can also try deleting the phone, repairing and see if it automatically asks if you want to make the data connection after you complete the HFL pairing. It will also allow you to test the data connection once established.
Be aware the mods may move your thread to the Navigation / Electronics sub forum.

I work for verizon. 95% of their phones will not allow its data service to be used externally (bluetooth/usb) unless the $30 tethering feature is enabled, its separate from the data plan. I'm pretty sure your samsung omnia will not let that happen.
What you could do is temporarily add the feature to test it out to see if it works, if you add and remove it within a day, you don't have to pay for it.
Also don't forget to go to Start>Programs> modem link or internet sharing > Choose Bluetooth> and click connect once you have the feature added if the phone doesn't auto connect.

Yes, tethering must be the issue. As posted above, Verizon requires additional subscriptions for that phone to work as the tethered data modem for the RL. (I am not a Verizon user and was unaware of their subscription capabilities). The phone has the capability and is compatible with the RL, but if the service is not part of the users plan, it will not work. Hence the RL did not engage the 'Easy Set Up' of the data connection, after pairing with HFL.
If the RL is connected to a data modem phone it enables additional AcuraLink features where the RL may communicate to the AcuraLink server via XM and vice versa.
These features have been covered in various other threads, mostly in the Navigation, Electronics sub forum.
